Forged rims with Dish

Re: Forged rims with Dish

you cant beat the quality and tensile strenth of japanese rims. Most high quality japanese rims are made in Japan due to the fact that most of the high tonnage forging plants are all there. I have used german rims like shmidt before and they are really heavy. And i mean heavy. But its very good on high speed of course. Even the japanese ones are good at high speed but alot more better in terms of quality and finishing.

NEEZ is the best.

Best is subjective but it is one of the best. Volks, BBS, Radnergie are also some of the best rims money can buy.

Acupunch, what's ur rationale on that?

I don't think BBS would specifically make the same kind of rims using 2 different metal suppliers. I have imported BBS CH rims from both Japan & Germany and they are exactly the same. Came with the necessary certs as well.

However, from what I can see, there are some BBS rims that are specifically made for the Japan market and vis-visa.

Yes, I agreed. BBS never made same wheel with different material. but with same model they had different name. I'm big fan of CH. Saw the RE, fell in love. too bad I can't afford it. taking CH design as an example. the same design Japan BBS made it with Forged ACQ and FORGED Aluminum ACQ and called it RE. I'm sure u can't get RE from German BBS. so that's what I mean.

Forged under special item called the RE Champion Edition with red BBS cap

Also for LM design, Japan BBS had the LM-R and German doesn't, just LM. If u the chance u view it at South East, u can tell LM-R lips it far better finish than
LM

LM-R

remember people always like to quote, JAPAN can always do the same but BETTER.

Re: Forged rims with Dish

Thx u all hiadees for contributing n adding yr ideas to this thread started by me. kam sia kam sia.

Acupunch,
Forged RE Champion Edition with red BBS cap lighter than its RE standard? Or is it just colour nia.

Re: Forged rims with Dish

for our E9* applications, I found this
Front RE 010 19×8.5 35 5/120.0 72.5 10.4kg
Rear RE 012 19×9.5 25 5/120.0 PFS 10.8kg
more aggressive offset
Fender Roll kaw kaw RE 011 19×8.5 15 5/120.0 PFS 10.4kg

it doesn't come 9.5 width with 30 offset. I know RAYS VOLK does. :)

READ MORE ABOUT BBS RE HERE

READ MORE ABOUT BBS LM-R HERE

it had very clear model code, offset, PCD, and weight of each model.

not sure about the different between RE and RE Champion Edition cos I don't understand Japs

Re: Forged rims with Dish

Ok I am reviving my this thread again, and I know we ve discussed this before but I would like to hear from some.

For those who have 2 piece/3 piece dish rims, and kerb the edges, I ve been told so far that most of you send your HRE, DPE, etc to grind away the circumference.

My question is : This can only be done if the lip is polished right? ie, not painted. This cannot be done if the lip is painted or chromed right? If we do that the areas grind off will have to be repainted so that the repaired area matches colour of the rest of the dish. So what happens if you buy a, say 2 piece DPE with dish which is chrome/painted?

Actually are the lips of dish rims normally chromed or just polished. I also came across this term called 'anodised finish'....WTF is it?

Re: Forged rims with Dish

DPE lips are believed to be stainless steel. I have seen some DPEs in KL but not impressed with the lip finish, at closer look even those lips got mild scratches. imaging these shiny looking babes are going to take punishment day and nite, muddy, salty, acidic road conditions....

i wonder whether issit safe to weld the wheel center against the barrel, coz i saw some ugly welding joins at the back of the wheels. the rivets are for show only.

but i really like the new DPE S7. go check out!

Re: Forged rims with Dish

Just take a look at this 2 piece forged rim mounted on an AUDI TT coupe:woowooo: . The more I see the more itchy I become:drool: .

But if the LIP kena scratched n cant be restored, then it will be $$ down the drain. :( . BTW these rims cost as much as HRE competition series and NEEZ.

Re: Forged rims with Dish

V nice, like Radernergie R10

Re: Forged rims with Dish

I love the BBS "CH" Design with the Red Cap! SIBEH Chio and the lightest among the 3 featured in that post.....I checked with Ah Hoa at SE Tyres liao....He say one....."KIN KAH HIONG KAN ah!" And "Sibeh Teng"

Sorry.....I am still a CH whore and every time I look at my CH I still feel I made the right choice 4 years ago.....

Anyway, the CAST Aliuminium one got "Motor Sport" embossed on them...

Cheers!

Re: Forged rims with Dish

same size CH and CK should be very close in price, cos both cast aluminum right?

Yep similar in pricing...there's a new grey color CK a S.E, looks quite nice to me but the guy says it's moving slow in terms of sales..

The LM-R is gorgeous..menacing looking. Suits coupe very well IMO

Re: Forged rims with Dish

Damn...after some research, realised a few things about forged rims:

1. There seem to be a perception that Japanese manufactured forged rims are better finished and stronger than USA ones. I ve read some poor feedback on E90post re HRE and iforged. Is that true?

2. Those that claimed they use aircraft grade aluminium materials and 8,000 tonnes press to manufacture these wheels are pretty steep in prices. For a 19" rim, the price is between $1,700 to $2,300 per piece.

:woowooo: Just a piece of metal so expensive. Is the price worth it.

TripleM

Do you know if the LM-R is fully forged ie the barrel plus the centre?

Re: Forged rims with Dish

Is it light, reasonable or heavy if a dish rim weighs about...

front 19x8.5 - about 10.3 kg
rear 19x9.5 - about 10.9 kg
