Re: Former Speaker of Parliament Mr Palmer will be joining law firm Lawrence Quahe &
I once had this discussion with a colleague on this topic - can a convicted traffic offence be reprimanded by MAS for a banker job? It can be argued that his driving/parking pattern is reflective of his true character. Integrity could be an issue. Judgement could not be sound and logical.
I asked on the relevance to the profession. Prove to me the conflict of interests. None?
Which hat is Michael Palmer wearing when you are "judging" him? A politician or a lawyer?
Why are we even on this topic when none of us are saints?

Wow.. Still credible to practise law?
A guy who is caught with a parking offence for parking beyond the displayed coupon period should fired from his job too. Integrity issue.
No wait.
That does not sound right. Is there a relevance to his job at all?

As long as a member of parliament carries out his duties faithfully and tries his best... i would think his personal business is his own. People should not be fast to judge, least they too will be judged.
We live our own lives and make our own decisions. Everyone makes mistakes and need to pick themselves up and move on. Why cant we gracefully allow others to do so?

Disagree......don't be naive that this world is fair and just.
Both are MPs and involved an affair but public (especially those cb mainstream media) view it a vast difference.
Opposition party MP = Adultery
Ruling party MP = Misconduct
And now we're talking to let this so called 1 in a 10000 picked "perfect elite" a chance to stand up again but not the former....kong simi???
May be my england no good so really buay understand please enlighten.

But he was boosted by our ruling party all their candidates (MPs) "Only sky got earth can't find" tip top quality no horse run and yet like this, in the house he's the bigger somemore, knn......I just can't accept and that's me.
Which hat is he wearing?
I think this thread refers to Palmer's legal profession, not his role as a house speaker/MP. That should be a different discussion altogether.
Granted, a politician is often judged with heavier weightage on the morality aspect.
But even that is subjective.

Half correct only.........so what is he's qualified to be a lawyer! Now, his upright personality is a big question mark to me and many people, engage him to represent? Siao ah, he has made a snook of whole of Sgp... I rather call 82019994.
That's your intepretation, cause you choose to infer his alleged infidelity to his professional conduct.
I can also say that because someone speeds in his GTR, therefore I doubt his decision making process to be sound and ethical. One should not deal any business with him.
But that sounds too extreme. Is there a relevant element? Is there a conflict of interests?

you may choose to judge this man (or others) harshly for having an inappropriate extra marital affair...
however, the code of conduct does not, unless it was a crime of a sexual nature or it interfered with his professional duties (e.g. sleeping with his client, or client's wife), take a paternalistic view of this matter. the law society does not prohibit him from continuing his trade as a legal practitioner.
mr. palmer's personal life (or the inappropriate decisions he made) did not concern third parties like ourselves. i am not saying he did not cause a lot of hurt to those he loved or who loved him, just that its none of our business. if you do not want to engage his professional services, then feel free not to. however, saying that no one else should.... who made you god?
Yes, if he is a divorce lawyer. Then I can see the relevance, and the possible conflict of interests.

I say won't engage him, reason: he was hand picked by high integrity party and supposed to be super good character but it wasn't the case. He chose to let part of Singaporeans down despite he sworn to serve the people and he jolly well knows the consequences if he "betray" (sorry my england no good can't use another appropriate word)
This is your intepretation of a PAP-MP, right?
Can you tell me what attribute is required for a lawyer that he does not have ?
