Re: FR: My First Servicing at PML
Hi everyone, I will also like to share my unpleasant experience here too...
I was driving a 3i8ci and at about 100 000km, the indicator for the auto gearbox lit up meaning to say that there was a potential problem with it and I made an appointment with "one of the more senior and experienced SA recommended" at Kampong Arang.
He drove my car for 1 round past Singapore Chinese Club and back and concluded that my gearbox was faulty and needed to be changed. The cost was estimated to be thousands of dollars (I only had a 1-year warranty for my car and it had expired already)... I told him my mileage was only about 100 000km (although the car was only about 2 years plus then) and I travelled mainly on expressways (meaning to tell him that the gearbox hardly changed gears at 4th gear). I also hardly used the steptronic.
I sought a second opinion at another BMW workshop outside and they recommended flushing the gearbox first. They flushed the gearbox 3 times and reset the indicator and everything was fine till the day I exported the car at about 135 000km. The workshop said that water seeped into the gearbox (I forgot why) and once water is out of the gearbox, it should be fine. True enough!
I drive a Jag XJ now and the service is vastly different although it does have its fair share of minor problems and the service lounge at Malayan Motors is nothing to shout about. At least I know that my car is well-taken care of once it is inside and they will not spare any expenses to change the parts (under the 3-year warranty) even though I may not detect them myself. That is the difference!
