Free trial of HP air filters

Re: Free trial of HP air filters

Maybe the fact that the car had just been driven, making it hot to touch that made it a bit more difficult for us. We're trying to fit it in while at the same time avoid getting scorched! BTW, do you know what the thingy is above the radiator fan snorkelling to the air box?

Yeah,
It's meant to be tight. To my surprise, however, It slides in very easily in my air box. David at BVO did it in just a cupla minutes w/o removing the box lid

Glad u are enjoying it dude:)

Re: Free trial of HP air filters

U r probably refering to the intake pipe.

oops. sorry about the delay. unfortunately the 318i valvetronic uses a circular filter and not the standard square panel filters like those cars with the M54 engine.

so in short, no fitment right now and chances are that since there is no 318i in the US where these filters are developed, we will not likely get to enjoy HP filters with the E46 318i. now the E90 filter is another thing altogether. more info on that as soon as i hear from the developer.

cheers

Re: Free trial of HP air filters

louis - when are you expecting to hear from the developer regarding the filter for e90 - 4 pots. Gona change oil pretty soon and the K&N filter was on my mod list when I visit the workshop. Your timely advise would be helpful.

hi Motofish,

thanks for the interest! the E90 filter WILL be developed. its only a question of when exactly it'll be ready for production. i've contacted my supplier and hopefully will get a reply once work starts on monday.

cheers

Re: Free trial of HP air filters

Met up with Louis last weekend as arranged and got a trial HP filter in my E46 320 now.

We got it installed at BVO, where my relatively clogged up OEM filter was replaced. One thing I forgot to notice is the supposedly thicker section/depth of these HP filters, guess I was too excited, hehehe.......and also when Ah Wee installed it didn't seem as tight a fit as some of you all here mentioned....similar to what Triple M pointed out, it fits quite easily into the stock airbox.

Headed off after that and my gut feel was that it did feel slightly more responsive. NOt sure whether its also because my previous filter was just due for a change and having brand new filter in there definately helps! Also had UUC pulleys installed on the same day and all the improvements could be due to a combination of both.

Engine sounds a tad noisier (more like wind noise if you ask me) during move off especially in the mornings from cold start, and also during lower rpms. But gradually changes to more sweet engine note as I drive on for a while, when temperature needle reaches middle mark and hit the higher rpm range.

Anyway, thanks Louis, I'll let you know in a few days if its a keeper....

cheers!

Re: Free trial of HP air filters

ninja07,

hope you'll eventually decide to stay in the HP club!

Motofish and other E90 owners,

based on the indication i got from the supplier, it'll be at least a month from now before the E90 filter is ready.

meanwhile, if you're already running a CAI which uses the K&N cone filter(RF-1032) you can order the SE cone filter as a replacement.

Re: Free trial of HP air filters

louis - I don't have the CAI, just the stock airbox. When your e90 filters arrive, hopefully you can extend the free trial before purchase offer to the e90 fleet. I will hold off the K&N upgrade for now. Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers.

Motofish,

no worries! i'll save the first unit for you to try when the E90 filters are ready.

cheers

haha, sure, no worries.

just so that i can have a rough idea of quantity to bring in... who else might be vaguely interested in the E90 filter?

TripleM,

i can only guess that since your car and airbox were hot when you installed the HP filter, the box expanded and allowed the filter to fit in easily. when both airbox and filter are heated up, the fit should provide a tighter seal than either OEM or K&N.

Bro, you got any fitment for E36 320i?
