Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

here is my humble analysis..gonna ignore the old birds like toilet n jamers....propt..all u guys r graduates oredy....good stuff.

jason, marcus, terence, terry all played better.

- jasonkuan is snappy chases every ball. especially when he loses it. me likes. one problem is when the opponent goaile gets the ball...u run back without looking at the ball...counter attack from goalie n u will be lost.

- marcus used every drop of his energy i can see.....tried his best to track..but prob tired out in the end when trying to read n track the players. legs also jello with the passing after he wins the balls.....come another 2x.

terence - did a decent job goalkeeping...n challenging. much much better than the aimless running last time.

terry - useful decoy as always. but got to be a bit harder and be quicker with the pass. notice u look down when u hv the ball. 1st rule - stop the ball n look up. find ur team mates.

gadaffi - first time i see him track back so often....taking responsibilities when playing with newbies...good stuff.

matakia - u r getting stronger which will win u more battles n more balls....but u hv one big problem, which is same as mine. u like to run with the ball down the flank n blast hopefully. u also like to take an xtra step when u control the ball. sometimes its better to stop n thread the simple pass.....what u tend to do it stop the ball..push n pass. not gonna work in a small court. u dun hv the space. diagonal runs across the court is much better. thats the same advise kenn gave me. dun be headless...u using all ur brute strength now..every shot is a blast.

rashed - u are a natural ball holder. try to look up faster n play the quicker pass. also need to come back once u lose the ball. when i started playing years ago...i had this problem..i lose the ball, n first thing i say is 'FCUK'! then i stop playing...let my team mates chase it. now i dun....when i lose the ball...its my responsibility to chase it back bcos i lost it. anyway alot of us hv this problem here simply bcos we r tired. everyone shud be aware of this...

axl - u hv a lot of energy...your reading is also getting better...but sometimes its better to hold back than to chiong in. good to see u shouting instrns. blindly rushing in can put u out of positions...n make ur team mates run to cover u. tire everyone out. football is a thinking game. u can slow tempo...u can push it up but not all the time.

bobby - how to start with u? the first time u were 2/10. u r now 6/10. i think u hv a better than average ball holding, trapping ability. u need to spot ur gaps. dun park urself at one point. try to run across the goal if u r staying up. again, like axl...u hv bursts of energy that puts u thru..n hence u get the goals. just need to improve stamina.....n keep up with the showmanship...relaxes everyone.

propT - the quiet guy...vast improvement. confident on the ball now. still a bit soft. otherwise i think reading of game n tracking of players way better than before. takes up defensive positions when needed to.

jamers - bro i will tell u one thing...u r good. u hv the size n the ability to hold ball. decent speed...not much to say. but i know ur weakness. u only turn right. :)

mark lee - build some muscles....good running hard working...but ultimately u cant go up agst ppl like kenn. not that i am able to myself...but i dun think u r even able to out shoulder me. also a lot of running with eyes on the ball. look up. u can read the game quite well and often thats half the battle. if u cant beat the harder players...make it difficult for them. check them out. force them to pass.

kelvin - bro..ur stamina. u r one fine ball holder....u can play anywhere....but bcos ur stamina is down....late in the games u cant track back when u dribble. but then again u fall down so often n the opponents r gracious enuf to stop play..keke...seriously pick ur stamina up n u will be solid again.

manopilo - antoher scurrying rabbit like jason..not much to say...but needs to control the headin rushing....can put u out of position. u r not easy to pass..but dun rush in too much. good team mate to have when attacking.

benho - ben u r one fit fcuker....but u aint using ur energy! learn to keep eye on running man. otherwise u hv the size speed etc.

eugene - very good ball skills, nice to play along side. come more often

hitmee - bo size leh bro. very easy to nudge u aside...still i think u need to play more up front n run the gaps. otherwise i think u look up n pass very well.

winston - sibei aggressive goalkeeper...u play basketball one is it? reading of game...cant teach u that.

toiletseow - my hero....nothing else to say.

well thats my 2 cents....feel free to criticise me too....i can only agree with kenn...game is faster and in some situations...takes a long time to score a goal. simply means everyone is a lot better. very enjoyable.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

gee so much improvement in juz 2 weeks...

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Don't worry about it folks, it's just a casual weekly exercise and not a competition or anything. Most importantly is to have an enjoyable time and avoid injuring each other by being overly zealous.

Everyone 'sucks' at one time or another so it doesn't matter, no one's keeping count :)

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Toto, thanks for the honest critique. I was never a regular soccer player until NS, before that played hockey for school. Explains my poor ball skills, but ability to read the game....and hockey don't need muscles one...push a bit ref blow for foul. lol

must get my ass into the gym...

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Nice post-game analysis! Always good to see it from another person's perspective.. interesting read too. Think you were being kind to me though cos I was really bad yesterday trying to get used to the new shoe, almost fell over the ball and couldn't control it.

Noticed most of you were wearing nike, is it more comfortable/flexible/better feel? I noticed at the shops that it was more flexible and wider at the front than adidas but heard that it's not as durable, any feedback? My adidas was slimmer at the front and a bit longish, maybe too 'technologically advanced' for me I don't know. But I sure didn't feel like it was an extension of my foot (while it lasted). Perhaps bm2000 shoes are better for me as I can feel the ball better with it.

Depends what you wanna do with the ball. If you drag the ball with the sole, or require close control of ball like juggling, stick to Adidas Salas. Fantastic sole for dragging the ball.

u got a lot of basics to learn.

basics - trap ball, stop ball. look up pass ball. its your priority. but meantime, u can make ur number count. i teach u something. u know we plpaying a very small court. n only in the D can the opponent shoot. its very different from what u watch on tv where cross, long ball comes in.

u try this...check ur opponents out. this is the same in field football. u force the opponent to go to the side. narrow the angle of the passes. if u cant win the ball, u make sure he cant get pass u...or he makes the pass. make ur body bigger...open ur legs n arms. when i say check, i dun mean tackle them of chiong in. u place ur body between hiim n the goal always. force him to move to the sides or corners. narrow his options n sight of goal. thats how u make ur number count.

everyone wants to score goals n be hero...but its often the defending that is more important. if u dun score u r still in the game. if they score u r out.

*nod nod* :)

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

frankly for shoes its indvidual. nike is a solid advertising company...hence.

i think the most important thing to me is weight and grip. all the futsal shoes hv decent feel...cant say much. the grip is important in fast pace games...change of directions etc. more important than that..make sure u dun get blisters. too lose n u will get blisters below n black toes. too tight n it gets even worse...blisters at the heel. that one u cant run anymore.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Thanks Toto for the write-up! :) Dint realise I was running blindly in/out of positions.

Waiting time quite long... inevitable with so many forummers aching for some action. Worse is short waiting time le, Hitmee => one team super-dominating!

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Sounds like you guys had a great game yesterday.
Couldn't make it down yesterday due to some formalities, but will join you guys next week.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

axl...its easier to see as observer...futbal is a funny game. its a very very team game. try to think as a team. what u do can will affect ur team.

imagine in an attack...patient build up..the back 2 guys passing the ball. nothing will happen if the front 2 guys r gonna stay parked behind the 4 defenders right? so u need movement....

in the same scenario...if u r one of the 2 guys passing the ball..n u suddenly think u gonna try n dribble or make some killer pass (i m guilty of that sometimes)....great if u go thru....but with 4 behind the ball...what happens if u fail? u r caught facing the wrong way after losing the ball...ur opponents get it n come charging.....they hv only one defender left to beat.

thats what i m saying when i talk about making head-in rush without thinking.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

It's 4 against 4 out there. Any player running out of position is putting the other three players in precarious situation against the opponents. Unless you are dragging another one or two opponents along, running into obscure positions effectively locked your game up.

Example of common mistake - perhaps we watch too many BPL games, many of us tend to dribble all the way to the corner - what can you do there? Cross the ball as if we are on the field? Or take a potshot? Either way, you risk losing possession to the opponents. If your team is good in passing, the last thing they wanna see is conceding possession that way. Plain stupid.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

anyway i know i hv my weaknesses too...i tend to make silly long range passes. i hv no patience. i like a fast tempo game and hence i tend to look for speed in my game. a bit like shawn...where i charge down the side n then do some silly blasting. taking it out of my game now. trying to use more free man especially the defender/playmaker more. i m learning the patient build up.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Thanks for the more than kind critique, toto.

I would like to apologise for bringing kelvin down last night. It's one of the god damn worst habits I have when I get too competitive in the head. I would stick out my leg an extra length, either forget to pull it back or leave it there after I'm too tired. Then I would bring down the poor guy who has dribbled so hard to get pass me. Really really sorry about it.

I guess I saw quite a few of us doing that last night and it brought down quite a few others. Maybe the fitter guys dribble too fast for us to respond? I know it's just excuses to a certain point as we should play futsal like driving, take it safe to play another day, rather than injure yourself or the other player out, then can't play anymore for 1/2 weeks.

I really enjoying watching you guys play from the outside, but it's a freaking long waiting time lor. Can see so many of you were full field players with all the razzle dazzle skills. I've never been a field player or anything. So I just hope to learn along the way, and try not to injure myself or anyone else.

I kicked your foot too last night, sorry toto. Also, I'm not that fit lah... I'm really tired liao... that's why can't run... the running man problem is a big problem to me. I can't read shit. I need someone like Axl,Kenn, U, Gadd, Kelvin or anyone else to shout at me to mark where and when.

Can't wait for next week guys. I have bruised black toes problem... sianz...

si bey inspiring.... the cross kicks are solid, but my fav is the one where the striker do a 180 turn in front of the goalie and gently roll the ball in...

toto, you going to be the alex feregesen for s league? si bey interesting analysis... and yes, I play basketball grow up one. center or power forward

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

ben its call a trialing leg....its not deliberate..but it just means u r slow to the ball. keep the man in sight. peripheral vision is important in football. need to know where all the opponents r. the most difficult guy to track is the guy that moves the most...he runs across the court.

Re: Friendly FUTSAL 24th June 2008

Exactly ben, I used up all my energy all night running past people just to be hack down after that. Your tackle you left a trailing leg which caught me out of the blue, I thought i went past you and had already look up to take a shot... Then my leg got caught and I went down.

Overall I think all our fitness ( except me and a few others) has improved a lot. But tracking back to defend can still be improved on. It will be good that whoever is the keeper can arrange the defence because you will get a good view of the running man. For example if someone slips past the defence line, give a call to the closest defender to pick up the running man.

I do not know why but this is the only soccer group that I play with that gives me bruises and cuts every week. So many years I have been playing I do not get so consistant injures every week. This week as well as last week, I have bruises on my arm! We need to cut down on killing each other, especially when the attack is at the fence and no where to go, why force him to kiss the fence? Think about it guys, we are not playing rugby.
