Well, this meets my requirement as well. If you have any cost effective brands, do recommend. I will like to participate in the bulk purchase as well.

Went to autobacs this morning and they sold a set for $399 with 4GB SD Card. I was contemplating when I need to power via cig cables, which will means lifting my handrest always... sigh..

Talking about powering it via cigarette point. Just to share with you, I have a GPS unit fixed via suction on windscreen near to ERP unit. I didn't use the cigarette point to power up my GPS. Instead I got the ICE people to tap onto car's circuit point. So you won't see ugly wires and no mess. When my car is turned on/off, my GPS will follow.

This show work to power the video camera. Cost: $80. Damn exp. Their reason, BMW more difficult to do. Cockanaden.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

I am using this,.... Digital Driver Protection System

Roadhawk RH-1 in car safety camera system

Pro level. Pix v clear. Loop recording. Auto start when engine start/off. GPS tracking. speed tracking.

I ordered it online. One front, one back. Love it. But no cheap...

Clarification: It's more for accident/ events recording. Can switch on at night but i wonder if it will drain my battery too badly cos it's not based on motion-sensor.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

Does anyone know if there is a video cam thats activated by motion sensors? Like to catch vandals when our car is parked and unattended.

Hmmm... ....motion detection will b ideal ....
good and bad for cam wired to car battery it will b neat but if u forgotn to off the cam system n leave the car for afew days without starting, the battery will b dead.... :biggun:

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

i have 1 set of this on my own and the other not used, any takers?

everything is DIYed on own time and it is so easy to do if you use the setup kit in the box

this is easy to install and the media is on a mini SD card. Battery is charged up via the cig charger and can work within 6-8 hours without charging.

the good thing is that the media overides the earlier capture and this is governed by the size of the media itself

I've got a 4-Camera system with also has Motion Detectors for Park Mode. The cameras are Sony High-Res, wide-angled at 120degress, so pretty much captures all around. It doesn't have a preview screen, but does have a composite video output. So you can hook it up to an external monitor. It also has an external GPS Antenna. So with the cameras and the antenna being independent, it allows you to place each one, at your own preferred location and it's really small too.
There's also an in-built voltage sensor to prevent draining the car battery. It will shut off when the car batt level drops below a certain voltage.

You can either store all data on a Storage Card, or there's an option to hook up an external Hard-Drive for really long recordings.

Ain't cheap though at $580.
You can PM me if you're interested.

Hey! I'm keen to install this camera system. Where can I do it, bro?

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

Bros, can you post some pictures of your device?

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

This might be a little too late to the party but I have this installed in my 320 FL.

Car Black Box - Vehicle Black Box - true-i - Hanman International

Quite a good device and works independently. When engine is started, it goes into "driving" mode and caches video. Only when the built-in g-sensor is triggered that it records 20 seconds before "impact" and 20 seconds after (total 40 seconds). In "parking" mode, it is triggered on both "impact" and "motion" within the camera's visual field.

I've bought one from China when I on business trip there. Cost less than SGD 70. Reasonable quality.

Quite expensive IMO. More than S$400.

Hi E90koh,

I absolutely agree that having to pay $499 for this is expensive. I was toying with the idea for awhile and hesitated initially.

Then, on a trip to Great World City one afternoon, my wife parked the car in the carpark and went to run an errand. When she got back to the car, someone had backed into it and damaged the bumper (it had a gaping hole in it - probably from the exhaust) and passenger side headlamp. Total repair came up to almost $2k.

Bit the bullet and installed the camera after the car came back from the workshop. Wish I had looked past the massive price tag before this unfortunate incident happened.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

I'm also worried about this happening and then regret it later.

Where did you get this install, may I ask?

But most of these cameras are not turned on when the car is parked.... unless you have an independent switch to turn it on. Reason: It consumes pretty high battery power.

the tru-i is on all the time. apparently, it consumes very little power from the battery. it goes into "parked" mode and detects motion within the camera's view. if no motion is detected, it does not record.

it also does a battery check. if the car batt is weak for any reason, the camera shuts off so that the battery is not drained.

i've had it installed since october last year. no battery issues to-date. *touch wood* ;)
