lobot....let me give u an analogy.

in 1998 when i was getting married....i sent an invite to my brother's god father. my wedding was at the 4 seasons. when i delivered the card..he told me congrats. how much is the table btw. i was abit taken aback but i told him. the next day he called me. told me he was below my office. i came down and he wanted to borrow 2k from me.

i thought about it....and in the end i gave him 300 bucks in an envelope with a note. in that note i told him, pls take this 300 bucks. i write it off. u dun have to pay me back. since then he has avoided me each time there is a family gathering.

here is my point. i thought long and hard about it. when an adult from another generation borrows money from u. he writes off that respect. he put me in a dilemma...he crossed the line. so i did the same. sure i will help if there is a genuine case....but this wasnt. i know the background for the need.

ok...i think this story is similar to whats happening here. people come here to ask for a favour. people we dun really know. people I do not know. I will help to the best of my abilities if someone needs to know the cost of repairs for eg. but, are these guys crossing the lines? to me yes...

knn i wrote to LTA to ask for TP excorts....those blood suckers ask me to pay 20k to apply for permit. knn i aint paying....someone burn me some paper TP pls. at the same time burn some ERP gantries too just in case.

Why you want us to burn gantries? Haven't you had enough? I think we should burn you some cashcards!!!

I understand where you are coming from toto. You wanted to spread the joy of your marriage by inviting your brother’s godfather. To you or anybody else for that matter, it doesn’t really matter how much the guests give in red packets. The red packets are meant for good luck and you really wanted everybody to be happy and share in this joyous occasion. Furthermore, you said you delivered the card which speaks of your sincerity to invite your godfather’s brother. Unfortunately, he asked about the cost per table. Naturally you will be taken aback cos this question is irrelevant to the objective of the invite. And whats more he went all the way to your office to borrow 2k from you which does not sound appropriate. One can conclude that he must have did a rough estimate of the wedding dinner and based on that, tried to gauge the health of your finances thus going all the way down to your office with high confidence that he will most likely be able to get a loan from you and not be rejected.

What makes it worse is that it is not a genuine case of need as you said you know the background of the need. But out of due respect for the older generation, you put a nominal amt with a note. By indicating on the note that you will write off the loan, it does not constitute disrespect on your part or displaying a condescending attitude that you write off the loan cos you think he cant afford to return you. You were just trying to send an indirect msg that in life, we treat ppl how we ourselves would like to be treated, respect is not earned overnight and there will be boundaries in every situation or relationship and he had breached it. Last but not least I am nobody to comment so much on this situation cos I only been to an outing to watch soccer with a few forum members here and never attended any meet up to date.
