Gear dragged bit, then sped up after going upslope.

Hi,

recently got a F10 523i 2nd hand. realised that when i go upslope, the gear seems to get stuck on lower gear (not a bad thing, has power to climb). After returned to flat road, it seems to have delayed effect (doesn't change gear), then after few metres/seconds, surge forward abit (maybe sudden downshift then gain power).

anyone has same issues? is this normal?

on flat roads seems to be ok for gear changes

Not normal get it checked. Hope a ATF fluid change will help it otherwise try a transmission readaptation or reset. Google it

After changing trans fluid, seems alot less prominent. The stay on higher rpm/lower gear after just climbed slope still there, but change of gear smoother. might be adaptation due to slope.

Might not be used to it, some more “coast to brake” got auto downshift, previous cars no have :D

Try to replace this in the gearbox. To restore sealing pressure for the mechatronic and improve shifting back to new.

Cannot be cleaned. Replace the whole valve cover for best effect. not serviceable
3rd party sold valve will not seal properly.

tks, yet to go workshop as only happen once a day from my home (the slope), and symptoms seems to be less prominent (on the surge part, the 'stayed' higher rpm still happens). hopefully it's adaptation issues. will go WS once symptoms are clearer

Hi i have the same exact problem which my workshop couldnt give me an answer, saying its normal. Could you let me know if you manage to fix this issue? Ty!

i'm currently deliberately 'easing off' the gas pedal immediately after the slope, to keep the RPM below 2k so the gear drag doesn't happen.

Another owner PMed me, i think he exploring options to replace vanos solenoid amongst other solutions, let see how things goes.

Flat roads no issues, so i'm waiting for more obvious symptoms b4 i visit my workshop
