Gearbox problem

Gearbox problem

Don't take this personally. The point is, many people (myself included) have gone to bad workshops and got screwed over and over again, changing parts we do not need. After that, went to a specialist workshop and probably paid less in one consultation than all the many trips to the bad workshop combined.

Imagine this...

Someone falls sick, and all the meds he usually buys from Apex in JB don't not seem to work. Finally, he goes to SGH dying of pain and the specialist consultant does a thorough diagnosis and pinpoints the root of the illness. Holding the consultant's prescription in hand, instead of going to the dispensary to collect medication and make payment, he runs off and goes back to JB to buy the prescribed drugs from his usual Apex pharmacy.

Problem solved, illness cured. If I were the patient, SHIOK lah.... Save tonnes of money right?

But many people here in this forum are doctors and surgeons, imagine how the specialist consultant would be feeling? We often think more about ourselves than others, it's a natural thing... but don't forget that doctors are human beings too.

I understand where you are coming from. But this is human nature. Of cos we will go thru means and ways to save money. Not all people have the earning power like doctors. Doctors can go ahead and rip those who can afford it. These are facts of life. You can't blame the patient who ran away to JB to buy the medicine not forgetting he's also taking the risk of making the trip to JB. Everybody has the right to make their own informed decision.

On other hand, i'm not here to make enemies. I'm here to purely share my experience so that other bros can benefit from it. While i'm sharing my experience, there are idiots who come in to make sarcastic remarks. He don't understand there are very experienced mechanics around who can tell exactly what's the problem with the car by hearing all the symptons. He's behaving like a small little kid trying to gain attention.

Erm.. so just because doctors can afford it, means we can get free consultation from them and screw the doctors by running off to JB? I don't understand your logic.

And the risk of going to JB is irrelevant in him paying or not paying for SGH's consultation fees right?

Sorry bro, where did you get the idea of 'free' consultation in SG? I did not say that. There's nothing free in SG. We still pay consultation at the end of the day. We only did not proceed to buy the medi from the SG doctors.

And let's not drift away from the purpose of this thread.

Some ws charged $80 bucks just to pluck in laptop and do a diagnosis. Omg. So far I was never charged by wca for diagnosis. Maybe I shouldn't compare apple to orange. But the fact that local workshops always try to reap us off irks me.

If your ride will be repaired at workshop X, typically the diagnosis cost will be waived at workshop X.

If you just wanna do a diagnosis but might not wanna leave your car there to be repair, then rationally the workshop has to charge the costs of diagnosis.

Your said workshop in JB did not charge any cost of diagnosis since you repair your car there.

Can share which workshop charged you for diagnosis even when you repair your car there? Also, which local workshop(s) reaped you off?

Good to share both good things and bad things for an objective perspective.

If not convenient, can PM me.

Of course that is totally different altogether - pay for consultation at SGH, then pay for meds in JB / pay for diagnosis in SG ws, pay for repairs in JB.

At least that is fair to the doctors.

I went randomly to some workshop at Batu cave location during that time I hit the monkey.

U might wanna consider auto Bavaria in KL?

Re: Gearbox problem

Dear all,

Can we all just share the problems encountered and the solution used to solve it?

Choice of workshop is up to individual.

Chill....

this happened recently to me,
driving on the highway nearing my office and suddenly the engine overheat amber lights came out.
reduced speed, kept to the left and exited highway and slowly make my way towards office in eunos.
when was about to reach, the engine overheat red light came out and shortly after; the battery discharged light came on too.
thinking this time up lorry liao, so park one side and called a local workshop and told him what happened.
as Im pretty near the workshop in paya ubi, he told me to rest the car for awhile and let the engine cool off.
after that, drive slowly to his workshop.
it must be the belt that has broke, he said.
true enough, I popped the bonnet open and I can see the broken belt.

after resting drove slowly to the workshop.
when I reached, the belt; pulley and tensioner has already arrived and is waiting for me.

they chop chop changed the parts and im out in 30mins.

I ask the boss how did he know the belt is broken when I describe it over the phone, the answer was that he have heard of it numerous time.
belt broke, that y engine start to overheat,
as the belt is connected to the alternator, therefore the battery discharged light will follow soon after.

This sharing is very good.
Thanks

My point is - if you have been there for 5-6 times, you are already a customer. No customer will be charged for diagnosis after so many visits, even if you are doing the same in Singapore.
