Anyone tried these tyres? Are they comparable to PS2? They are selling 40% cheaper than PS2.

Quite a few forummers have tried it. Indeed much cheaper than PS2 but not comparable. There is a new tyre on the market called Dunlop SportsMaxx. About same price as the Eagle F1s but rated better by a forummer who switched from F1 to it.

As Dave said, when buying FIs, do note that some are made in Thailand. Avoid the Thai-made ones.

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

nothing wrong with the thai made ones IMHO. used them on my last track day and they performed well, given that i paid $150 a piece for 225/45/17. haven't tried the german ones so i can't compare.

even daniel from Leong Seng says that it's probably all in the mind... and this was when i enquired about the german ones.

Compared the 215/45/17 side by side and here are my friend's comments (CORRECTION, tested 215/45/17 and not 225/45/17 as previously posted):
Thai version:
(1) is lighter,
(2) has softer side walls and
(3) has a lower speed rating.

Price of the Thai version was S$145/each, German was S$195/each. So my friend took the Tom Yum version :lol2:

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

The Dunlop SportMaxx is also made in Germany...bloody good tires for the price.

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

got my GD3s since late jan .... absolutely no complains... great in the dry n supposedly really good in the wet.

i drive a Cabrio... so the 'supposedly noisy' tire doesnt effect me at all...

225/40/18 front n 235/40 rear.... german made... 1.1k

swee swee...

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

What's the stigma against tires made in Thailand ? Firstly it's a logical place for tire production as the raw materials for making tires are indigeneous to the country and secondly Thailand has a huge domestice and export car market, so there is a local need for large quantities of tires to be supplied. Lastly I'd suspect the likes of all the major tire manufacturers in Thailand would not put their name on the sidewall if the product was inferior to the same made in their other factories. You'd almost have to think that Thai made tires might be formulated to better match our climates. I have had Thai made cars, and they have been the most dependable I've ever owned.

Anyway, I too want down to the tire shop, saw the prices of the various tires for my e46 and will go for the F1's. They did come out on top in an on-line review I read for overall balance between wet and dry performance as well as noise.

No stigma bro. If it is cheaper by $50 compared to its German counterparts, I see no reason not to get them. But if the prices are the same as the German ones, then different story. Do give us your review in due course.

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

Hi

These Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres are great in the wet. If you chiong quite a bit, it might be worthwhile to buy these tyres and change them more often becos they are more affordable.

On my Merc E Class sedan, after 2 years or approx 30,000 kms, the noise level is really getting noticeable, especially at lower speeds. For my next tyres, since I don't chiong much, I am thinking of changing to tyres that are positioned in between performance tyres and comfort/quiet tyres.

Goodyear has the Eagle Revspec RS-02 tyres that fit this description. They are cheaper than the GSD3 tyres. Anyone has fedback on these Revspec RS-02 tyres?

FYI, I did consider the Dunlop SportsMax but they do not come in the size I need - 245/40/18.

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

Hi...

Of the 4 tyres that were mentioned, I've tried 3... The PS2s, The GS-D3s, and the SprotMaxx... Here's my 2 cents worth...

You won't go wrong with any of the 3...

Price-wise, the PS2s are quite significantly more than either the GS-D3s or the SportMaxx, and the bottomline is that I agree with the 'survey' findings on www.tirerack.com in that of the 3:

1. The PS2s offer the highest levels of DRY performance;
2. The GS-D3s offer the highest levels of WET performance;
3. The SportMaxx is probably the best compromise, based on fact that the DRY performance pips the GS-D3s and the price (in SG) is very comparable to GS-D3s...

As for the Thai-made GS-D3s, I've got a friend who has them, and he's got no complaints at all, as to the way they perform... and the price difference between the German and Thai ones, seem to make a pretty compelling to lean towards the Thai ones.. I personally haven't tried the Thai ones, so can't give a 1st hand account in the difference...

The other thing to note is the Threadware Rating on these 3 tyres... For which, the 'Best' is the GS-D3s, and the 'Worst' is for the PS2s (if memory serves me.. pls check for yourselves to confirm)...

However, the reason why I stated 'Best' and 'Worst' in inverted commas, is because its only in relation to these 3 tyres... Again, if memory serves me... GS-D3s have a rating of 280, SportMaxx is at 260, and PS2s are at 240... (the bigger the number, the longer it lasts)... however, if you were to compare to Bridgestone's RE050A, then that one's got a rating of 140...

Cheers..

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

im on F1s.

as what others have said, dry and wet grip is good , and the price is a big +. but i dont buy their 280 treadwear rating, mine have worn out in well under a year and about 20k.

going to try the sport maxx next.

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

Another choice is the Toyo T1R. Performance close enough to those mentioned, good noise levels and excellent ride. i know a few happy owners! Reasonable price too. Pity they don't make size for my e34.

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GD3

i was told by the tire shop the Dunlop shoes are the best value/performance for the money so far amongst the 3 mentioned here, piping the F1s. If i have a chance will try the Dunlops to see if it lives up to its claims..cheers
