GPS for my BMW

Re: GPS for my BMW

Garmin Nuvi! Garmin Nuvi! Garmin Nuvi!

Re: GPS for my BMW

Garmin nuvi or 276C.

Garmin - because GPS Maps of Malaysia & Singapore is free and good maps.

Nuvi if you want sexy, but can live with weird searching and difficulty in updating maps.

276C if you want tough, can use on boat, and perfect searching.

Elaboration on search (only relevant to malsingmaps maps:

Nuvi - search on first word only for addresses, sometimes failure.
276C - search for anything within the road name.

Why malsingmaps? continually Updated, free, great. Better than stock Garmin maps of singapore IMHO.

Re: GPS for my BMW

Garmin is 'make', Nuvi and 276c are 'models'... these are both Garmins...

Nuvi is very quick to pick up Sat reception (maybe newer hardware) and has ability to display in both 2D and 3D... its also totally 'mobile' in that its small and handy to take anywhere, even while walking in 'unfamiliar' places...

276c has more 'powerful' features bcos of its ability to be used for both land and sea. It also has to ability to 'plot' and save routes which aren't necessarily 'shortest' or 'quickest' to destination, which is very handy for B-Road driving..

I have both... and IMO, can't really say which is better than the other... unless for handiness and ease of use, then the Nuvi wins... whilst for more ploting features and customisable main screen, then the 276c wins...

BTW, MalSing is avail for both the Nuvi and 276c... and the diff between the factory maps vs Malsing maps is that while in SG, the Garmin maps can search by 'exact address', whilst with Malsing, you are not able to do so...

Re: GPS for my BMW

oops.. sori.. forgot to add...

bcos the darned things are more made for European/ American street names.. one needs to just note that things like Jalan, Bukit, Lorong etc., aren't very 'correctly' abbreviated... for eg. on Garmin, 'Jalan Tua Kong', would appear as 'Tua Kong, Jl'.. once u get the hang of things, it then becomes super easy to use...
