Hello Fellow Beemer Fans,
I'm a real newbie and this is my first posting ever... Got to know about this site recently via a pamphlet stuck on my windscreen when I was at the Raffles Marina Club attending a wedding dinner. Funny that I never realised that there exists such a club in Singapore, oh well ignorant dude I am,...but hey better late than never.
Ok, a little bit about my yearning for the Beemer - it really started off when I was in my teens, and I was a backseat passenger in a 320i belonging to one of my sister's many BFs. Needless to say, BF No: XXX kinda showed off his speed driving skills in tearing up the ECP highway; and we were zipping past other cars as if they were standing still... those images got ingrained into my head for the longest time and since then, I've always dreamed of driving this German marque. After having toiled for YEARS trying to make ends meet in the rat race, I've managed to save enough $$$ to buy my very own car ie. a Mitsubishi Lancer in 1991. From there I moved on to a used Rover Windsor 820SLi which was my first exposure to 2000cc Continental marques, drove it for almost 3 years before the engine broke down and left me with a hefty $5K repair bill ...! So that spells the end of THAT love affair, and with whatever residue $ left from the Rover, I figured its time to buy my dream car, no matter how puny the cc may be, after all, its a Beemer ... and so I became a proud owner of a spanking used 1997 BMW 316i saloon in metallic bluish silver colours. She was a thing of beauty even at her tender age of 3, with shiny 17' sports rims and cool 225/45 low profile pirelli tyres. And despite those heavy set wheels, she still chomps up them miles at a decent pace. Driving a Beemer somehow feels sooo different on the road compared to other Jap cars, that I still can't really put my finger on it - it was a joy to drive it everytime. Finally, after 5 years of faithful service, I bade a teary farewell and traded her in for another used BMW 2002 model. So now, my current sexy babe is a 2002 model 318i saloon in a mystery black dress ! (Yeah I know, I need to get a life if I start referring my cars as sexy babes, sigh)...
Now I gotta admit, my love for the Beemer is mainly physical (eh what? now that sounds scary) what I mean is the form and function of the car, but I'm clearly not a car techie per se. I can't tell the difference btw the cylinders, torque, nuts n bolts or E?? models of the cars, my braincells has been inundated with too much IT garbage for over 20 years that I don't have enough brainpower to absorb anymore specs and facts...LOL.
Oh God, can I rattle on forever more?.. ok that's enough soap opera intro from me... well, can't wait to meet my fellow Beemer fans on Sunday...
Cheers!
