Greetings N Questions

Hi y'all,

Greetings coming from Taipei!
And in case some might wonder, nope, i aint from taiwan, im from Singapore. HAve been residing in Taiwan for a couple of years now, work related.
Got my very 1st bmw just last year, and I can say im pretty impressed with its driveability and definitely, definitely the L6 engine roar when accelerator's being floored.

As for questions, I may be planning on returning to Singapore in a yr or two and was wondering if Singapore still has rules against the import of LHD cars.
My current ride is a Z3 Coupe, and i believe there isnt any available in SG to my best of knowledge. This coupe is the only BMW car designed/built by engineers, Z3 is by Joji Nagashima, thus its unique love it or hate it shape. It would be regretful to leave it in taiwan then.

Hope someone has updated info on this. :helpp!:

Re: Greetings N Questions

According to LTA the answer is NO.

Import Vehicle Requirements

The vehicle must pass a mechanical inspection at the LTA before it can be registered. The requirements are:

* All safety glass fitted must have not less than 70 percent light transmittance and must not contain any metallic oxide coating
* Exhaust emission standards must be as specified by either the European Directive 91/441/EEC or Article 31 of the Japanese Safety Regulation. A certificate of compliance is required
* Only right-hand drive vehicles are allowed in Singapore (Left hand drive vehicles may travel through Singapore provided certain obligations are met)
* The vehicle must be able to use unleaded petrol
* The vehicle must be fitted with approved front and rear safety belts
* The vehicle must have asbestos-free brake and clutch linings
* Air-conditioning units must be CFC-free

Note: Requirements differ for vehicles passing through Singapore.

Re: Greetings N Questions

I spent about 2 years in Taipei, and had to forgo my beloved e90 320i when I return to Singapore.

I believe you must have enjoyed your ride around Taiwan, up the mountains, into the surburbs and villages, and being topless when its around 20deg is really nice.

Re: Greetings N Questions

Arhhh.. nice! I reckon that to be a really crappy feeling.

We should have caught up then, I've been here, for like 5yrs now!

Apart from the bumpy roads that screw up all my cars' rims, and crazy traffic, its a thrill to drive alongside mountains n sea. AND especially so in the 20deg or less region! Simply love it! :D But, i dont have a convertible, so no topless drive for me :D:D

Re: Greetings N Questions

Aahhh.... I missed out the word "coupe", thought is the z3 softtop. My e90 has sunroof, so basically, just have to open the sunroof, off the aircon, and enjoy the cool natural countryside breeze. Traffic is indeed a BIG BIG challenge in Taipei city, the scooters, the "小黄", and some random crazy driver there. haha...

i was in Taipei from end 2005 to 2007, back in Singapore in Oct 2007, but still missing Taiwan. We have been going back once every year so far to visit our Taiwanese friends and further sightseeing.

The politics aside, its a nice country with nice friendly people.

Re: Greetings N Questions

No problem.

Thats what i do too, wind down the windows, tilt my moonroof n enjoy a slow drive among chilly sea breezes .. thats something we can nvr experience in sg

Yea, taiwan is a big country with many places to sight see. People are nice too, especially towards foreigners. As for politics.. basically its :biggun:.
