Re: Greetings

Hi Bros, would like to seek some advice.

I installed jb4 about 1.5 mths back. Nine out of ten times this happens since installation.

When driving hard, after 5-10 mins, the car jerks and looses power, RPM drops to about 1.5 so i let go of the gas. When i accelerate again gently, once past RPM abt 1.5 the jerking comes back. the more i step, the more violent the jerks. When this happens i just crawl to a safe spot, off engine and restart and all is back to normal. Quite scary. Now i am just driving on map zero which essentially means on stock ecu, jb "switched off".

car has:
-pml installed performance exhaust
-dual cone air filter
-using either map 1 or 5 on the jb (recommended by ws)

to make things more tricky, once on the jb map, it hijacks the ECU and so no warning lights come up. So when i took it to the ws, the computer diagnosis does not detect any faults and they say it seems to drive normal. Does anyone have any experience or advice to share? Could you point me to something so i can maybe do more research?

thank you!
S

Hi Bro, 1stly, welcome on board, enjoy your stay! 2ndly, congratulations on a sweet fine ride. Now, the disaster starts.....well nothing bad actually but a few pointers to take note.

I am one who can exactly picture what you are trying to explain because my ride is same as yours & have JB4 installed as well.

Before installing JB4 2 months back, I didn't suffer the irritating jerks same as you described. (note - while driving hard)
After installing it together with dual cone filters, the same events happened at least 3 x. Went to Boss to have the engine diagnosed.......and guess what, the usual culprit turned up on board the computer results page >>>>>> High Pressure Fuel Pump ! They also shared their experience with other 335 customers over the years, the HPFP issue is a common issue.

FYI this is a common part that needs replacement for 335's manufactured in 2007 & 2008 some say 2009.

Another possibility told to me by them was, because JB4 demands your engine & parts to be in optimal running condition, to match up to its increased performance delivery, you gottta ensure these main parts have to be in the pink of health:

HPFP - high pressure fuel pump
Ignition Coils
Spark Plugs

So I have replaced those 3 parts & today the pick up feels like you're darting off instead from standstill :), feels so much better, the various rpms seem to be stable & linear.

I did experience once 2 days ago though, that same choky, jerky feeling from the pedal & the engine. But other than that, I am monitoring the situation.

In summary, the parts I replaced, reduced the possible frequent recurrence, but it surfaced once again 1 x.

has any other bros on JB4 335i experienced similar events & managed to resolve the issue entirely?

Re: Greetings

Thanks JJ. And Tatler, thanks for sharing your experience...much appreciated. I will go check those parts you mentioned. Actually i did ask workshops if its any typical problem parts that is the cause and after the computer diagnosis turned up clean, and they test drive, they told me: Bo tai ji leh...

Will update once I sort it out.

In the mean time any others who can share some pointers pls do.

Cheers

If bo tai ji then i suspect jb4? Maybe mine too? The jb4 causes that?

actually if i am not wrong, JB4 do not hijack the errors thrown by the ECU.. i.e. you will still see everything...
in fact u can also use the JB4 to see if there are other errors which can compliment the findings on the computer diagnosis thingy...

for the HPFP, it might not be a complete failure but an on and off thingy... maybe that gave you the "bo tai ji" reading with the computer diagnosis...
a mechanic told me that the pressure reading (via the com) can give a indication of health of the pump... the pressure may be lower than normal, but not low enough to throw a warning at the point of diagnosis... what is the magic number and how true, i dunno...

my 2 cents...
