Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

I think you just top up petrol too full so over spill . nothing serious

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

where is the smell coming from? if from the cabin, its likely u need to replace the o-ring seal in the petrol tank thats located beneath your passenger seat.
if its from the engine bay, u better get the hoses checked

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

Yeah get it checked. My E36 use to have that problem too. After fixing the problem might still have the smell for a while. You can change your air-con filter if you want, but smell will go away.

CANBERRA, Australia - Australia is fighting rampant gasoline-sniffing in the Outback by extending the availability of a less harmful fuel as part of a major campaign to improve Aborigines' health, the prime minister said Wednesday.
Opal, a government-subsidized gasoline modified by BP Australia to remove most of the chemicals that create the euphoria that sniffers seek, has been introduced since 2006 to 108 gas stations servicing Outback Aboriginal communities as a safer alternative to unleaded gas.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard told Parliament that Opal would be rolled out to another 39 stations servicing 9,000 people across the northern Outback by 2013.
"Opal fuel has delivered a 70 per cent reduction in petrol sniffing across communities with improved health outcomes, family function and community safety," Gillard said.
Gillard announced the initiative as part of the government's third annual report on what is being done to close the decade gap in life expectancy between Aborigines and other Australians by 2031.
Australia's 500,000 Aborigines account for only 2.5 per cent of the population and are the nation's poorest and least healthy ethnic group.
Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promised in 2008 to close the gaps between indigenous and other Australians in health, education and job opportunities when he offered Aborigines a historic apology for more than 200 years of past injustices.
Gillard's report showed minor improvements in some measures of Aboriginal disadvantage, including in the death rate of indigenous children under 5 years old, which remains twice that of other Australian children.

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

Smell comes from near engine bay... bottom area. Only when I coming out frm my car, I can smell. And I dont pump too full, always auto stop. Well jus bot tis car frm direct owner, havnt send to a E46 guru to do a thorough chk. Any workshop recommendation where they r v gd in E46?

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

sounds like u got a leak in the feeding pipe or whatever they call it.
try to monitor your petrol level for the next few days or perhaps u can start your engine and shine a light in it to see where the leakage is.
worse come to worst. go to a workshop, raise up the car and let the mechanic have a better look

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

Mine just collected my E60 (2007yrs model) yesterday.

After parking, i could smell strong petrol outside the left passanger door area.

This morning when i opened up the boot i could also smell it but not that strong.

Carried out undercarriage check with a torchlight and found no leakage or watever.

Am quite worry cos it my first time owned a conti car.

Any advise folks?

Cheers

Heavy Petrol smell...

Dkk. This kind of thing better check, its no laughing matter. I had a leaky fuel tank in my 7 series once so thats one possibility.

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

Thanks folks for your feedback. Think it's the O ring playing the trick.

Will send over to my car dealer tml for their checking.

Luckily i am on 3rd party insurance covered.

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

Update: Sent to MBM this morning for a full checkup and was told fuel pump connector crack and fuel leaking...

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

If its really the o ring - might as well replace the fuel filter etc along the way. Go in with quarter tank or less of petrol if possible. Check part availability first before going - o ring assembly has other parts you would need replacing else problem might persist.

Re: Heavy Petrol smell...

Hi RBB,

Had given green light for them to change the fuel filter. The price quoted was very steep.

Think will buy parts at Eng Soon in future and pay for their labour cost.

Cheers
