Heavy Rims ... what are the advantages?

Re: Heavy Rims ... what are the advantages?

Thanks I really appreciate your comments. I was going to go back to Ray S Sports shop tomorrow before I send the car to MBM to check for alignment but your comments made me think twice.

Perhaps I send to MBM first and if they confirm this is an offset or alignment problem done by Ray Sports than i have valid evidence to confront Ray Sports shop.

But I kinda doubt that its wrong offsets...the 19" Breytons are quite common on e92s ..and i give them recognition as tyre specialist...and it is possible in one of my several trips to KL i hit portholes...if this is the real cause i hope it can be solved by a simple correction of alignment and offsets.

Er sorry i dont know how to post pics but if you pm me your email address I will send the pics to u on email....

Once again many thks appreciate your comments

Did you experience rubbing noise when turning right or left or when driving straight? I will be surprised if you have never heard any rubbing noises if you can rub through a hole on your car......

Wait....this is major OT to the original thread isn't it.....sorry

Re: Heavy Rims ... what are the advantages?

heavy rims can use as dumb bell !

Re: Heavy Rims ... what are the advantages?

Heavy weight NOT= Strenght
Light weight NOT = Strenght
I assumption is base on overall wheel qualities.
Rim A a OE rim weight 12kg = Strenght (car maker requirement) X factor
Rim B a after market rim weight 10.5 kg = X
Rim C a after market rim weight 9.5 kg = X x 0.9 (10% less strenght But not weak and still to drive at normal driving condition)
Rim D a after market rim weight 9.5 kg = unknow X
Rim E a after market rim weight 12kg = unknow X
I guess why is the OEM rim always on the heavy side beacuse they have to make sure their OE product are the strongest(R & D tested), Car Makers always assumed our cars are driving on any type of road conditions (dont mention about our SINGAPORE so good road)
they wont know where the landed which shore.
So we have to decide what you WANT.
Breyton wheels are not only for BMW (now also VW,Audi)
Dont get a wrong impression Breyton should fits your BMW perfect, that is technical spec for diff model( is the retailer job to follow Maker specs)
I did heard about 1 customed made rim need centre RING:confused:(what is the point of customed) and fitted with wrong bolt sitting some more(OE bolt)

Re: Heavy Rims ... what are the advantages?

Are there instances whereby forged rims cracked before?

You started this thread to say this?

Isn't it common sense that light rims drive and handle better. Like running, do you want your shoes to be light or heavy like old SAF boots?

A waste of bandwidth.

Re: Heavy Rims ... what are the advantages?

how heavy is heavy:helpp!:
A stock rim weight 14KG after market rim range from 10kg to 16kg for example.
to some one anything more than 10 kg is heavy.
To me any thing less than 14kg is light:thumbsup:
from the picutre (MR Mock ) shown does not justify to quality issue,
A car driving on the road could be any road condition whcih we do not know what the hell particular car has gone through.
Any Super quality rim (rim for F1 good enough?)
if you hit a hard impact also dent too.
So it is not fair to make a conclusion of the rim quality just looking at the resulted rim.
We need owner to tell us what had happend before the rim became like that:shoot:
