Help/ advice needed!! Tempered odometer

Recently I found out my car mileage had been tempered with. From 140,000km to 73,000km. I have only owned this car for 3 months, is there anything I can do like sue the dealer? Or ask for compensation?

If I ask for compensation, how much shud be the appropriate amt I shud demand?
If I sue the company, wat will happen?

I do sincerely hope any bros here with knowledge on this matter can share with me some opinions or advice.
Thank you in advance!

Tempering of odometer is tantamount to fraud.
Its a very serious matter.
Can sue and ask for a compensation
But i am not sure abt the procedure.

Re: Help/ advice needed!! Tempered odometer

best chance to rescind the sale! Misrepresentation. Go google or read law books.

U ask for advice in a forum will attract Table-Top University PhD lawyers

The company will probably just claim it was sold to them like that or some rubbish, or they will drag and drag in court etc. You can try bringing you matter to the jokers at case and see what happens which is the simplest way. Or just nego with them first and see can squeeze some money or not.

Most of the people will just suck thumb lah, this issue is widely known in the industry. I know of people who also dial back their mileage all it took was a laptop and 30 bucks. If the dealers would payout so easily we would be hearing alot of people feedback liao.

More importantly is the car working fine? Are there any majors issues you noted etc? I really suggest you don't waste your time, just bring the care for a full inspection if everything okay than happy days.

Damn sian, tried to goggle but not much answers. I do hope can rescind the sale but I doubt it will not be that easy with regards to loan and misc stuff. Worst case I'm expecting a compensation but I dunno what should be the amount I shud settle for.

When I ask the SA who sold me the car, I was expecting some shit excuses but to my surprise, he didn't deny or gave excuses that the car was sold to them like that. He jus told me they will resolve this problem. So I assume if they dun deny means they altered the odometer?

Re: Help/ advice needed!! Tempered odometer

Surprised your SA is so honest also lol, lucky you. Ask them what he can do for you bah, keep us posted. I will lagi more surprise if they are willing to take back the car.

Its because of such issues I bought my car straight from the owner.

He gave me the option to return the car but I've asked for full refund plus they pay the interest on the loan as well as a lot of misc stuff so have to wait for the boss to get back to me! Will keep you all posted!

Actually I know the owner is one of the members here but I dunno whether I shud ask him directly wats the mileage when he sold of the car to the dealer.

If you know the user no harm dropping him a message, just an approx would be helpful too. More information is always good.

I think dropping a private message to the owner might be the subtle way to go...

But, may I ask (I might have missed it), how did you find out that the meter was tampered?

Re: Help/ advice needed!! Tempered odometer

Usually if you go to any AD or dealer workshop - they will be able to tell straight away from plugging it in

Re: Help/ advice needed!! Tempered odometer

For bros/sis who are looking at pre-loved cars, it is always advisable to do a full inspection of the rides not just for physical condition but for other things like tampering of mileage etc. Just in the last few weeks alone, we have picked up a few cases where mileages were tampered during our inspection of some bros' rides.

Sadly, those rides had already been bought, in some case more than 6mths, so the follow up with the dealers as mentioned in the discussion above would be lengthy and tedious. And those rides usually came with a host of other problems as well. Hopefully you guys can get something back from the dealers/previous owners.

Re: Help/ advice needed!! Tempered odometer

Just an update, manage to speak to previous owner. Car was sold to dealer at 140,000km but there is no "proof" on paper when the car was transferred to dealer. Dealer called me up and talk a lot of crap, gave me 2 choice after long debate.

1. He will buy back the car from me, I will lose interest/penalty from bank for early settlement, lose road tax I renew for a year, waste a few thousand on mods done. Total lost I calculate ard 8k.

2. He pays me the replacement parts I have changed since taking over the car. Total reimbursement ard 4k. 6mths warranty on other parts if problem arises.

So I spoke to previous owner and was told servicing record at one of the reputable workshop, no major problem, a lot of parts jus changed this year, spoke to a lawyer fren and advice to lodge to CASE but probably will waste my time.
Conclusion, LL jus stick with the car hoping everything will be okay! Oh ya and stay away from this dealer for life!

Any bros can recommend workshop to check the gearbox? Probably I think that's the biggest worry I have for me.
