Help!! Engine off, A/C won't shut down...

Any E60 owner encountered this.... the A/C blower went into full blast mode ... when I started the engine to go home,and I cannot modulate the speed at all .
After reaching home and switching off the engine... plus removing the key from ignition.... the A/C blower continues to blow :whatthe:.. the fan light on the centre console remains on....

I am out of the car about 15 mins now and as I type this.... my A/C blower is still blowing even though car is switched off and locked.....

Any quick solution..... before my battery dies....

I am not sure if it will mess up my on-board computer if I disconnect the car battery....

I encounter the same issue too. It wil shut off eventually. I suspect it has got something to do with the car dehumidifier.

y dun u try starting yr engine then off again..

disconnecting yr battery won't mess up yr on board computer la, at most re tune the radio stations only

Just checked again... the blower is now off:errmm: but the red led fan light remains on...:screwedu::confused:

Now I am abit wary about driving it out to buy dinner.... damn!

Happened to me a couple of times about 4-5 yrs ago. My problem was more the blower won't shut off. I narrowed it down to the independent climate control function. I can't remember what I did exactly but it included playing around with the independent climate control and also resetting the system using the car key.

Can't remember the sequence exactly but it was something like turning the ignition on to just before starting engine, waiting 10s and turn back to orig position 10s and then take key out. This was posted on some bimmer forum somewhere. Useful also for resetting the drive mode of the AT when it gets sluggish.

My E60 is pre face lift no comfort accesss

It's a common problem called the Final Stage Resistor failure.

Just get it changed, should be less than $300 if I recall

Happened to me before. Just unplug batt terminal, wait 5 mins and reconnect again. All back to normal. Onli need to reset radio stn.

Found this sequence for keyless. Haven't tried this keyless sequence myself so dont know if it works. No harm trying it out. Saves u disconnecting the battery . It is commonly used to reset the BMW adaptive transmission. My car used to get so sluggish when my beloved/CFO drove it for a few days and used to reset it with this. It also worked when my window jammed.


1. Push start button without pressing on brake. (do not start car)
2. Press acc pedal all the way down for 5 sec
3. Turn off car
4. Take foot off of accelerator pedal.
5. Wait 2 min
6. Start car
