Hi Bro Aaron, I replaced my gearbox solenoid about 40000km ago.I stuck at the jam, of cause using 1st gear only.Like tuttle crawling towards singapore Custom. After chop passport already , again jam in Singapore custom.Really nightmare

Ok, then maybe next time don't use gear one, just use auto mode.
Should not over heat again

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

I note that the pre-FL 320 has a small block-shape ATF radiator through which engine coolant flows. Has anyone supplemented/bypassed this with a traditional air-cooled Hayden-type ATF cooler fixed in front?

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

Is this problem unique to E90?

How come E46 nvr heard of this problem?

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

????? Is there?

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

The ZF gearbox is pretty advanced and overheating is not normal - this is what ZF says you should do if overheating happens ...... Quite surprise the autologic did not pick up any DTCs despite it showing up on the dash as a red gear .....

Does any1 replace the oil cooler before? I call 1 of the stockist.this oil cooler seem to be a seperate part.not inclusive when we replace radiator.or maybe some site sponsor ws can advice.

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

I recommend all bros to replace the oil coolers for EO and ATF.

Mine had failed prematurely at 60k km and I had ATF inside my cooling system and coolant/water inside my transmission. It was one horrible experience, and I hope by sharing that no forummers here would ever have to go through what I went through.

Of course, it was made much better by R2D who responded to my emergency at 10pm in the night and worked through past midnight to rescue my car. This kind of bros (and lady), priceless man....

How much the part costs for both oil coolers?

Couple of hundreds. But that is besides the point because when they fail, the damage (gearbox/engine) is extensive, and can be expensive.

Was your engine also overheating before the coolers failed? Otherwise quite hard to determine when that part needs to be changed

Nope. The oil coolers could fail without warning. You may know it only after it fails, when the clutch starts to slip.

Re: Help needed.e90 320i gearbox overheated

When the gearbox overheats, there is a couple of reasons.

1. You may have been gunning the car with very high loads (i.e. towing a load up a steep incline) But as we are singapoor people, very slim chance of this happening..

2. There is not enough ATF or its the wrong within the system to properly lubricate the system and this increases the heat load that the cooling system must deal with. ( this also quite rare)

3. The cooling system for the car is not up to scratch. i.e. There are blockages within the system that stops the cooling function from occurring. This can be in the form of air flow or coolant flow. The mechanic must check for these problems.....

Good luck
