HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

Re: HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

as for rim width, most makers have their respective 'recommended rim width', as well as a minimum and maximum. best to check their respective recommended sizes as each maker, or even models may sometimes differ.
link to PS2 details: MICHELIN
PS3 is currently out, but seems like sgp only hv specs up to 18"...

Ben, a couple of pointers:

(4) Which Potenza are you comparing to PS2? In the past, S03 from Bridgestone is comparable to PS2. S03 is now obsolete. The successor RE11 is the comparison to PS2 in performance terms. RE11 has harder sidewalls, is heavier but has better grip than PS2.

(5) PS2 has agent price and PI price. They are the same tyres, just from different sources. On 19"s, say 245/275, it should be around $2800-2900 for agent price and $2500-2600 for PI prices.

Arh... the sifu speaks.

Yeah the BS quoted are RE050. Not very good ones right? Also not RFT... so I am wondering if I should go for them if I am planning on traveling to NSH.

Re: HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

re050 , the std runflats?
mine also that... dun really like it

Re: HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

But kinda like boh pian.... no other tyres with 255/30/R19 for rear. Still looking. Alamak, should have checked before buying the rims. Now the rims in my office. Giving me the good to look at not nice to eat feeling.

Ben, a couple of pointers:

(1) If your wheels are 8J and 9J, the optimal tyre size is 225/255. On some if not most tyres, 235/265 will be too wide to be squeeze onto 8J and 9J.

(2) The tyre width requirement depends on your ride too. Example, if you are running on 8.5J and 9.5J, 225/255 tyres can fit, but it you need more grip on more torque, you can opt for 235/265. So there are actually 2 "optimal" tyre sizes for a 320 vs a 335..... Of course, some cars will go for the fatter look.... For most brands, 245/275 is too wide to be squeezed onto 8.5/9.5J.

(3) Not all tyres are identical in sizes despite the readings. Tyres X's 235 can be same width as tyre Y's 245 given the different shapes in shoulder blocks.

NOT fully agreed with this (5) , one typical example Goodyear sidewall crack issue those from PI is facing factory warranty claim.
I dont think those PI tyre just from different source only , tyre that made for other region have different compound.
being running around on the road have seen some Saloon car running on SUV tyre which i am totally not acceptable:yikess:

Re: HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

just to clarify number (4) RE11 is the successor of RE-01R not S03 so you cannot compare PS2 (street performance)and RE11 (street & track per)

I am not sure if all cracked F1 Assym tyres are solely PI tyres, if that's what you are suggesting. I know of at least a cracked agent Goodyear.

Agree, but there is nothing in the Michelin stable to compete with RE11 on street tyres. PS2 is rated one notch below the RE11 (hence my switch from PS2 to RE11).

I think the other basis of comparison is based on price point, and while RE11 is track worthy, it is more accessible to PS2 in terms of pricing. Hence the common comparison between RE11, CSC3, PS2 or F1 Assym, when RE11 is actually rated higher, against Advan AD06 and Direzza Sport R.

RE11 Is good choice if you need it for track and street use.
RE11 direct compare to advan AD08

Re: HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

Ordered the 255/18/35 AD08, waited for so bloody long and no stock so settled with RE11

Re: HELP: Tires Clarification for R19 Wheels.

I went around the internet to search for the Yokohama AD08 but it seems that they are not available in SG.

Oh, on top of that... what do you guys do with non run flat tires when you get a puncture? Are one of those pressurized foam in a can thing any good?

Would you really agree that non RFT are better to drive with than RFT?
