Re: hi to all...

Hi bro,

Welcome aboard.

Bimmer gd car, but 2nd hand one must check carefully, especially above 5 yo ones.... get a good machanic on standby.

Like what Bro ac323 suggested sgcarmart is a good place to check.

Meantime, enjoy the forum and just post your questions and quiries, so that the more experience and technically savvy forummers can assist you.

Cheers

Re: hi to all...

thx bro ac... noted abt bimmer.. haha.. sorry abt that... and yes i am looking at sgcarmart.. saw a few that looked ok... havent gone down to actually looked at it due to tight schedule.... :)

&

thx bro kim... for the welcome... :) .... hmmm.. budgetwise maybe ard 60k... modelwise i was hoping to the the 318Ci coupe.. the year 2000 model kind.. like this one that i saw on sgcarmart....

Used BMW 318Ci Coupe Car for Sale from Singapore, Nascar Auto Enterprise - sgCarMart

Hopefully i managed to insert the link correctly onto the page... could bro ac and bro kim maybe advise if its a good idea since its already 10 years old and with 100k done... coz i was thinking since its only 1 owner i guess he/she might have taken quite good care of it...

Cheers and thx again....8)

Bro,

Hummm, nearly 10 years car..... I don't know man....unless the owner is real passionate and committed to his/her ride... The plus point however, is the 100K km for a nearly 10yo car....provided the device is not tampered..

Bro, why don't you detail your budget....like downpayment amt, monthly instalment you are comfortable with(assuming interest is 3.5%), number of years of loan etc

Also, consider the maintainance cost for a 10yo ride, regardless of how low the mileage, has its fair share of wear n tear.... remember, don't be smittened by the exterior.... its the engine and the mechanics that drives you...

Wait for Bro AC to put in his inputs... he is da man when it comes to the machnics...

Of course, I am sure other bros will give their inputs soon too.

Cheers

Re: hi to all...

Hi lumpster,

this model is actually 4 cyc 8 valve and not 16 valve not sure why the dealer advertised it as 16 valve......it is 117hp and 180nm....

100km and 1 owner sounds reasonable for a COE car....
only killer is the interest rate unless you are buying it cash....i think is 4.5%...vs new car from PML at 2.5% (July onwards till now) or used at 2.68% upon bank approval....

if you really like this coupe of course go for it man.....

usual wear and tear parts are starter, air-con (cooling coil and compressor), ignition cable (probably around 130km or so), alternator, power steering, suspension, steering bush and lastly the gear box (usually will give way around 150km or so).......so this are the really hidden cost for buying a COE car unless the ex-owner already repair most of it..........

go and check out the car and do a test drive and have a feel of the engine.....

other then all this, i think just go for it....go with your heart (BMW=sheer driving pleasure)

try to bargain to S$50k (if can)

happy searching

cheers...............

Re: hi to all...

Bro Lumpster,

What did I tell you, Bro AC is da man with the detail answers for you. Bro Alv... you the best lah

But got 1 thing to add..... if you are the comfort drive man.... you might have to seriously consider the stuff you need to change or get ready to change.... and know what you are in for.

If you are machanically veri sound or have a good and value-for-$ machanic...then go for it

But keep your options open if you are apprehensive with the technical n machanical stuff

Cheers

Re: hi to all...

hi to all.... wow.. firstly thank you bros AC and KIM for your insights and opinions.. honestly i never thought abt it from that view.. i guess i was kinda caught up with actually owning one... haha.. okie.. i just got a reality check.. i never did think abt the cost of replacement parts.. and also the higher interest rates of getting older cars.. sigh.. alrighty.. i shall have to keep on looking and be patient... oh man.. ... owning a car is kinda harder then i imagined...

alright.. as advised.. time to relook my budget.. check out more cars and also i guess (sadly) maybe consider other options.... but sincerely thank you all for the help.. will keep u guys posted when i find something.. haha..

Cheers!!

Re: hi to all...

Hi lumster,

no worries....the best is still to work-out your budget first then it is easier to narrow down the ride best suit your budget......lots of choice.....check sgcarmart

happy searching

cheers

Re: hi to all...

Bro Lumpster,

Sori if I have dampen your buying spirit.... but if I see something wrong, I will say rather than see a bro get into trouble.... Options still aplenty for owning a bimmer.... Do your sums.....

1. How much down payment
2.How much is interest
3. How much, including interest, are you comfortable in paying
4. Maintainance cost
5. Parts cost
6. number of years of loan

You will be surprise after calculating, you may afford something even better

Feel free to post you questions.... I am sure AC and myself, as well as other bro will try to give our inputs as much as we can

Cheers
