Hit & Run

Dear Members

Anyone experience hit & run case?
The car is stationary parked in a proper open space hdb parking lot, next day morning notice front left area bumper and side fending were damages. The BMW Eye incar camera captured the impact video footage showing a red Honda car hit into the stationary parked vehicle and drove off without checking any innocent life and property injury or damages. lucky no one was hurt except paint, bumper, side fending were noted damages.

police report lodged and BMW centre is managing the damages claims against the 3rd party insurance.

the incident happen nearly 2 weeks and understand both the police & insurance are investigating, I wish to ask if any member experience similar incident and how is the outcome?

thank you
Gan

never had an outcome.. report police and case closed because cannot find evidence. Report just for statistics. Do repair out of your own pocket.

if possible, try to get opposite vehicle in-car camera video footage, but with this circuit breaker, most likely the in-car cam battery all flat...

As long as the incar cam capture the number plate, you will have a chance.

3rd party is quite leychey... supposedly they cannot start repair until 3rd party is successful. Some even have the car stuck in workshop until approved (for like a month or so)

If your in- car cam caught the license plate you definitely have a chance.but as ^

Hi GanBT, I experienced exactly the same ordeal as you, but with a commercial vehicle instead, less than a month ago. Lodged a police report the same evening and made claims at my insurance authorized workshop the following day.

Within a couple of weeks, I received a letter from TP in regard to the h&r report that I lodged against the culprit. Concurrently, the authorized workshop also updated that the culprit admitted to the wrongdoings and bear full responsibility. It was a relief as I was ready to upload video footage to seek public's help to ID and perhaps contact the culprit to yield and make a report.

We're unable to proceed with repairs if the 3rd party do not make any report. We can claim our own insurance (and they claim against theirs afterwards) but I am not going to disregard my own NCD and hard earned money for a fault that is not mine.

I would suggest that you do follow up with the workshop. I hope you went to a reputable authorized workshop as I strongly believe this and the police letter helped accelerated the claims process.

Good luck to you!

Dear Members

Thanks for the feedback.

The in-car camera confirmed clearly captured the 3rd party car plate number after the impacted and drove off.

Follow up BMW centre on claims matter and was told the 3rd party insurance asked for higher resolution video and BMW centre will submit via CD.

Received email from Traffic Police that said the case will take between 1 to 3 months and will let me know due course. My opinion on police solving cases is very effective that reports on TV news, anyway I wrote back to the police officer seek to expedite my case for closure within a month period.

I don’t wish to claim my own insurance that will affect my NCD and paying access for the incident that I am the victim. Hope justice prevail.

Tried to upload video & photo but was rejected due to huge file size.

Hope after fortnight will receive a positive feedback.

Thank you.

I wonder what will happen if the other party did not report to their motor insurer and/or police? This will cause the innocent party the loss of repair themselves as they cannot claim 3rd party

The culprit can choose to repair at their own cost, but will our TP be effective to charge the offender for 'Hit and run" or will they just leave it as a H&R statistic?

Good day Members

Hope everyone stay safe and healthy in combating covic19.

Received an updates regards to the case from;

  • BMW claim Dept, advised according to 3rd party insurance there are waiting the incident driver to made a report. Also advise me if I consider to file own insurance claims and recovery later from 3rd party? My answer is NO, and was told for AXA after 30 days we can’t file for own damages if I later decide to claims own insurance. As a victim, I see no reason why I should claim my own insurance at my own expense.
  • SPF, was told the case is under investigation and will feedback due course.

I believe SPF in their efficiency as reported in news solving cases swiftly.

Photo of the damages and video footage captured incident car number plate SLG6260Y.
