Hougang by-election

Re: Hougang by-election

i don't think desmond or tch are 'stoopid' that they don't know the 'truth' of loosing the by-election
what do you expect them to say ... really?
look at the responses ... all are diplomatically correct ... macam prepared by PR

a. i feel encouraged (ie: change has begun)
b. the result does not reflect the whole of singapore
c. it's a local matter
d. let's move on ... there are more "long term" issues need to be addressed

just like when you hear someone saying "don't say i say one" after telling you that it's not worth it

If you intepret WP's Aljunied GRC's victory in the same way as Desmond did on the bi-election, it is "a sign that more people in the ex PAP stronghold agree with WP's vision"......

Re: Hougang by-election

The recent political landscape in Spore has gotten alot of attention from alot of foreign media. Just google and you can find articles in respected newspapers of WSJ, FT, Bloomberg etc. The Ferrari case on anti-foreigners also fuel interest in the coverage of the by-election. This is also assisted by the 1.5million of foreigners who are living in SG right now.

In other words, PAP's performance indicator has become very transparent. As Spore becomes a crazy cosmopolitian society that is adopting frenzy immigraton policy not seen by the modern world, many eyes are now peeled to what PAP will do next. Even local experts share this view. PAP must be at its crossroads now, even if it is putting up a brave front. Question is will it adapt and learn what citizens want? Or will it barge through the policies it die-die want to implement with iron-fisted manner like what it used to do? Remember it is this very government that had made us highly educated and told us to think out of the box. If they persist its way without reform in policies and think-tank, it will definitely be shot in their own feet. Unless they can brainwash all 5 million of us spontaneously or replace the existing 3 million with another 4 million to guarantee victory by more than 50% in 2016. In my view, they are really playing a very calculated risk game of politics now. LHL better know what he is doing.

Read this on a local view. I have a feeling this prof will be sacked soon. LOL.

SMU Prof Bridget Welsh: PAP has ‘miscalculated’ in its by-election campaign « THE TEMASEK TIMES

On the ground event. But PAP will not read this lah..:

Five months ago: $60, 000/year NTU engineer, now: $1600/month technician contract job « THE TEMASEK TIMES

Then it is arrogant of them not listening to even a Profession's pov... anyway they have always been :D

Ask urself this... would it be easier to recruit more immigrants than changing policies to convince the existing Singaporeans that you are with them?

Judging by mass recruitment of FTs to fulfill GDP growth... i think the answer is pretty clear cut

It is pretty clear, yups. Also since FT cannot really support them since they r not eligible to vote, I would rather say very lax on granting New Citizenship to many FT while a handful genuine non-citizen (wife & children are) still unable to get even a PR after decades. Oh Well.

Re: Hougang by-election

I realise many many people seem to complain and hate PAP, but how come when come to election they still win?? Is it because people only talk but no balls not to vote for them? It really makes me wonder why sometimes.

We should not vote an alternative party fielding any tom, dick & harry just because we dislike PAP.

Well, I believe sensible person will vote for alternative party if the party fields credible/strong reps for GE. In e past there wasn't much credible reps from e alternative parties but looking at GE2011, there was a handful of good reps who had surfaced from e alternative camp. ONE classic example is MBT, never won in SMC becasue the electorate concerned do not want him but MBT still got in via GRC (ppl called it backdoor) and even became a Minister who was e Mastermind of e hatred COE, LMAO.

We have to look at e 'Fear Factor' or the 'I, Me & Myself' syndrome and that is why, up till 2011 PAP still uses e HDB upgrading carrot to gain votes... to me it appears people fear no upgrading if not in PAP ward.

Anyway above are just some gossip points, there's many many reasons why :OTpolis:

I believe the "fear" and "greed" factors have been drilled deep into our brain. Greed as in upgrading and incentives received by joining ccc and etc. on a flip side, you can also say that the opposition are not as strong or perceive to be not as strong by the main stream media.

I would say that they are doing their job wel but not as gd as what they perceived themselves to be. Like what csm said, passable grades.

Re: Hougang by-election

I quote what one of my classmates said during the 2011 election (he lives in Aljunied):

"It's extremely presumptuous and downright insulting to think that the only party capable of truth, honesty & quality candidates is the same party that has gerry-mandered, U-turned and over-paid its ministers to victory by suing or bankrupting any and all who dare oppose them."

Apparently, 72,165 voters felt the same way like him too, and hence, history was made that night.
