How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

it is often suggested whenever I bring my car into PML that the CSA will say the rear pressure shld be harder. Why do u need that when the staggered tyre will always be 30mm wider. Obviously u want that 30mm to provide more grip for RWD. so why counter that with a higher pressure at rear which makes the tyre less rubber touching the road.

BTW I am trying 37psi all round

Why don't you just follow the recommended pressures on the metal plate on driver's door? I think they account for staggered wheels as well.

Even when wheels have to changed to aftermarket 21s?

Hi Pengful,

Notice that the rear lights on your E90 are red. Did you stick some kinda laminate on it?

Pls advise.

Thanks,

Yeah. Hated the white so had some red laminate over them. Do they look bad?

No pengful, on the contrary it makes it look like the FL E90.

Do you think its possible to laminate white over red? I have my reservations as it would be difficult to cover a darker colour with a lighter one.

May I know where you did your laminate and how much did it cost?

Thanks!

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

i think the higher pressure for the rear has something to do with over-steer and under-steer not so much on the grip issue

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

pump hard all round to reduce rolling resistance...how much grip is needed for local road driving? Kenn says one.

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

Anyone can let me know what is the recommended tire pressure for the FL 3 series tires, thanks! (Front and Back?) (Is it F220 and B220? also)

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

if u frequently hv heavy loads, go with 250kpa
if not then ard 230-235 will do just fine.

Aiyah, like I stated before, look at the plate on the driver's door. Those are recommended pressure numbers.

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

Sorry hor... what happens if our tires are not stock... (Do I still use the same recommended pressure)... Please don't scold me leh...:) :) :)

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

you can pump a little higher than recommended. Locally, how much heat can we inject into our tyres with our short city driving. Most of the time we're driving around cold.

Some of us like pirate taxi drivers: Dad's taxi, Mum's taxi, brother's taxi, sister's taxi, grand pa, grand ma, nephews, nieces, cousins,. so may be driving can be as long as regular taxi drivers.....:lol2:

Re: How come BMW recco to pump rear tyre harder

Just to share my experience with F1 Asymmetric on 19in rims (245/35 front, 275/30 rear). The recommended pressures are 220kPa front 250kPa rear for normal loads. It felt too soft at the front (feel like almost hitting the rim when going over holes on the road) at these pressures so I pumped 250 front and 270 rear. The ride felt a bit hard so I lowered the pressures to 240 front and 260 rear, which seem to give a comfortable ride but less feel than at 250/270. Not easy to measure when tyres are cold (unless you have the Mobility Kit) so I just pumped 250 front 270 rear when warm. Perhaps the F1 Asymmetric has very soft sidewall and hence, more sensitive to minute pressure changes.

i running on F1 Asymmetric (235/35 front, 275/30 rear) on an E93 325.
what tire pressure shld i use?

Hi, I have the same thoughts as well. They pump 220 for the fronts and 240 for the back. Really strange. Besides, my front and back tyres are the same adn not staggered at all on my E90

exactly my point. And BMW is 50/50 weight distribution. Its not like I have a summo wrestler in my boot which necessitate higher tyre pressure at the rear.
