How is the new JB customs?

Re: How is the new JB customs?

These are my limited experiences thus far:

* SG-bound

Drove out from JB this morning, surprisingly no jam. Maybe the authorities there open more booths so as to project an efficient image for the time being. :eek:

After clearing the immigration, I was travelling anti-parallel to the incoming vehicles from SG. Their right lane was filled with buses, leaving only the left lane free for cars, so that might be a bottleneck. Hopefully when the road routings are fully completed (currently cars going to JB have to drive through the old complex then loop up to the new CIQ fyi), it wouldn't occur.

* JB-bound

As for the design of the new CIQ, do note that the lanes (esp at and around the passport-stamping area) are quite narrow, drive with care. There are 1 or 2 moderately steep upslopes also (already have gash marks while in the trial period!), lowered cars driving slowly shouldn't encounter a problem.

Also, when merging together after pass-stamping, there are a few area IIRC where the rounded kerb blends in with the concrete, ie. the vertical sides have no coloured markings.

The part where the officers inspect your boot, watch out for the raised area just before it, as it blends in with the road surface.

So the conclusion is: driving in/out through the new CIQ, just drive slowly, check out the sights and familiarize properly in the meantime first.

HTH.

Re: How is the new JB customs?

8 am yesterday

Inbound to JB was jammed to the bottom of CIQ, moved along to the booths in 10 mins.
Caused by vans trying to cut into the bus lane and certain drivers lacking the skills to move thru the lane.

3 pm yesterday

Outbound to SG

Traffic build up to Tebrau highway near Taman Sentosa. I have a feeling all the bottleneck was at the left turn after Police Station/Jalan Storey.
I made my way thru Plelangi and thru the Lion City Hotel, all clear.

7.45am today

No jam, but the customs were packed with confused singaporeans. Alot of slowmos and lost.

The new CIQ will be able to clear more traffic, but the problem really lies with Singapore, not JB. In my past 9 months of commuting into JB, this side has never taken me more than 5 mins to clear. CIQ will only be optimised if the new casueway is to be built.
Hello! Singapore! Can you hear me.

Re: How is the new JB customs?

My FR on the outgoing side of the new CIQ Complex. Went through it to get back to Woodlands last night. I had wanted to go back at around 7plus, but the jam was horrendous. So decided to wait out at City Square and have dinner instead to pass time.

Headed home at around 930pm. Roads were pretty smooth. The exit to the new route to the new CIQ complex is now just after the junction after Pelangi Shopping Centre, or before the tunnel and BHP station if you're coming from Wong Ah Fook. If you're heading from Premas Jaya, you can just follow the road which runs along the Sultan's polo club and you'll come to the new complex as well.

Once you head up these roads, the signs stating the direction to Woodlands are plenty. Follow these and you'll come to designated lanes for cars and buses and Passport Clearance. The lanes between the counters are rather narrow, so be careful if you don't wish to kerb your rims.

One thing that is a pain for most drivers, are the humps. In total, you'd probably need to clear 3 humps. First one just before passport clearance, second one just before customs clearance and third one just before you exit to the long winding road out of the complex. The humps are very high, and those with lowered and kitted rides (like mine) - Please go at snail's pace to avoid damaging your kit or hitting the undercarriage. The 'drop' upon crossing the hump is quite harsh.

After exiting, the long, winding road will lead you back to where you usually exit at the old customs, then you cross the causeway to the next delay on the Singapore immigration side.

When I was passing by, I could see the huge pile up and jam on the incoming side of the new JB CIQ. Tailback was almost back to 3/4 of the Causeway. Now the congestion is more stretched with the long winding route on the incoming side of the new JB CIQ.

Re: How is the new JB customs?

Yap... Those humps are bitch!!!! Really way to high...

Re: How is the new JB customs?

-> Congestion at new Johor checkpoint

"Many motorists, especially Singaporeans, did not know that they were required to use Touch 'n Go cards at the new complex in Bukit Cagar."

Seriously, how can they have NOT known? Never read/watch any media at all? :confused:

That said, it was also "reported Johor immigration director Mohd Nasri Ishak saying that the congestion, which was mostly during peak hours, was caused by motorists being unprepared for the new cashless system."

(source: Congestion at new CIQ)

Surely there's also the thing of the inefficient and narrowing routing from the old JB customs to the new one (4 lanes merge into 2)?
