F430 syder better!

wah you got a lot of discipline... I would love a half a million AMV8 but even dream damn hard also cannot afford... so if I can afford, I would probably find it hard to resist...

Re: How much is too much?

u shud check out my nether region below..i tahan until they r both blue in colour...actually there is one more reason why i keep holding back. i believe most of us here hv the same problem...

i cant see myself being deeply in love with a car for more than 1.5 yrs....after awhile i know i will want something better....there is no end to it. it goes hand in hand with the search for more HP. after u taste ur first 200hp..u want 300hp, then 400hp....yaya some will question do u really use or need the 500hp? if i tell u YES, will u believe?

Re: How much is too much?

haha... yes there are some people who will aim for 1000Bhp and beat the bugatti... hahaha...

Thats why I feel we should buy a car that is as complete (in our eyes that is) as possible... For me, its the package - looks, brand, uniqueness, power, handling... everything... no car is perfect for sure, but I tend to find a car that is as close to perfection as possible.. something with good scores in all traits. The car may not necessarily be the best in certain traits or the market leader, but thats ok to me... I hope that I can find a car that can last me till the 3 year warranty ends.. haha.. that would be an achievement.. This time, i am quietly confident I will achieve it..

eg. in my case, I have lost count the upteen times I need to explain to people why I chose maserati.. (usual remark is.. huh? why maserati? why not porsche?)

in the past:

I like coupes - so I had my first BMW 320 coupe.. but no power, and I like top less

so I bought cabrio - loved it.. it was the longest I ever kept a car almost 2 years.. but just too underpowered.. if it was a M3 cab, i would probably be driving it now still

so in the quest for power, and not wanting to spend so much, bought EVO - 6 months was all it took for me to get bored.. its really just a track monster.. didnt develop much feelings to it.. no attachment... no love...

then my lucky break came - now got V8.. almost perfect in my eyes... better looking than most porsches (dont flame me please!), and can sit 4 comfortably for long distances.. what more could I ask for?

so sometimes we change cars because we dont find the right one yet, or we rush in to buy something we think MAY be right, but turns out not to be..

So even if the new M3 comes, I may have such an attachement for the exotica of the maserati, I may, even if I can afford it, give the M3 a miss...

which, to me, will be a major achievement liao!

heheh

Re: How much is too much?

i think that cabrios have the added problems of compromised rigidity, increased road noise and tops that are susceptible to slashing in public carparks! ha ha... and as i'm extremely adverse to heat, the only time i feel is suitable for top-down driving is in the evenings/night...just after the rain... but it would be total bliss to be able to drive, say in an english/european countryside in spring, early summer or autumn....

no arguments there... i absolutely agree that coupes are frequently the most attractive cars around... would get a nice coupe if i had the money... but i certainly will not begrudge others or rationalise away the reasons for not owning one (other than for the simple fact that i can't afford it!)... sigh... but no sour grapes there! :)

ha ha... yes SMYUEN, i would rather have a maserati or aston martin over a porsche...

haha.. ok sorry, maybe I chose the wrong word and didnt explain myself... actually i meant those who actually love coupes/cabrios but cant buy one for whatever reason (kids, wife, parents... may or may not be money.. cos entry level coupes and cabs are not that pricey to begin with), and are "forced" to buy MPVs, APVs, SUVs, HMVs and what not... then they start singing to coupe/cabrio drivers that they are impractical lah, waste time lah, bo liao lah, singapore so hot lah... to be fair, I havent heard such comments from our forummers and close friends... rather more from people from other walks and circles...hahaha

and my dad is the biggest champion of all - he cant understand why I love 2 door cars! ( but he cant deny the fact that they look good. heheheh)

ooops.. but I didnt call him a sour grape.. if not sure :furious: :furious: :furious:

Think for you...greatest achievement is not having stickers on the Masser like on your cabrio....:screwedu: :screwedu: :screwedu:

:lol2: :lol2: Oh and AM for me too...if I could afford it:cloud9:

Re: How much is too much?

stickers.... hmmm.. still thinking...

unlikely to put lah...

Re: How much is too much?

yes, entry level coupes can be relatively inexpensive, but nah... no point getting a coupe for the sake of getting one... if you know what i mean... so, until i can afford a coupe that i like, i'll stick to driving a semi-decent sedan... sigh...

Re: How much is too much?

Wah.. I very sour grapes like anything lor.. for my humble ride, my heart only holds 10% of the decision, my pocket the other 90%... the 10% was that the car was white (5%) and it's still an old bimmer (another 5%). ... the 90% guess no need to explain lah...

One thing though, that 10% had really outshined. Not only the cars (E30 then, E36now) handle great, it got me into a great forum such as this. .. Err.. someday, I'll get that old cabrio when I have less family obligation and cruise down some old winding road with my old lady.. kekekek...

Re: How much is too much?

Eh, trying follow my footsteps on getting a old cabrio ah?

But seriously, the "Partor Mobile" is very siok! Just me and my wife sneaking out for supper at night with the top down.

SMYUEN,

I thought you drove a BMW?... Oh leh, so I'm quite new here... So you drive a Maserati? Coupe?
That's no exactly cheap is it? Lucky you... :)

iwannaconvert,

Convertibles I agree have the added problems of compromised rigidity, increased road noise. But you get the advantage of open top motoring.

My friends in the States say how lucky we are in S'pore... summer all year round and we don't enjoy it with open top motoring?!
Over there they buy costly options like the Mercedes neck scarf to blow hot air to their neck and ears so that they can drive topless in Winter... :lol2: :lol2:

I want an AMV8 cabio man... :yummie: :yummie: :yummie:
Sigh, probably will be an Ah Peh by the time I can afford one... if at all. Then people will make comment about car SO CHIO, how come the man inside looks like #$%!

Hi DRV!

havent seen you around before...

err.. my personal love stories with cars harbour almost on the "unfaithful" sort... have changed cars 4, ( or is it 5... shuxx cant remember... ) times over the last 3-4 years... so yeah, my vehicle landscape does change frequently... keke

used to have BMW... (now wife has Z4..)

me has maser 4200GT - but no lah, I was lucky to get a very good deal for a brand new maser... so I am not exactly the 400K budget kind of person... not in that league..keke... so no gransport.. sad..

open top motoring is pretty fun in singapore... actually, sometimes when I find myself freezing in the aircon after movies or shopping, a drop top run in the sun is perfect!

btw - whats your ride?

:)

New to this forum... X'mas period so thought I try something new like forums... and learn more from fellow enthusiasts..

Maser 4200GT... wow :yummie: :yummie:
Cabrio I guess...

My ride now is a Jaguar X-type... :yikess:
Horrors to most people here I guess...

Was in the States for a couple of years... got a E46 330Ci there...
Wanted one in Singapore but was quoted $230k... couldn't live with paying 4x as much
Needed 6-cylinder (like someone said, once tried 200hp or 6-cylinder, forever corrupted)
So got X-type used... good price there as well.

But car absolutely no power (relative lah... friend drove my car and say wah, so much better than Toyota Altis)... but having switched from 330Ci, no contest.

So now looking at Z4... wife likes it... no kids... so almost perfect...
How's your wife's Z4?
:)

Re: How much is too much?

DRV-

Helloo! and welcome!

no, mine is a coupe.. I dont like the maser cabrio - think it looks a bit too short lenght wise... the Jag XK and Aston cabrios look much better... I think even the 6 series cabrio looks much better.. hahaha

X-type... oohh... interesting...

Z4 - nice car... 2.5 litre is enuf most of the time... but 3 litre will be perfect... I love the way the Z4 handles, and the sound and the feel... always so enjoyable to drive... just a bit slow..

you looking at new or used Z4?

Re: How much is too much?

SMYUEN,

OK lah... dun laugh at my X-type lah...

Z4 Slow ?!
Er... I guess compared to yer Maser... aiyah 4.2l Ferrari-built engine cannot compare lah... need M5 V10 to trump it.

No money for AMV8 so got to stick to Z4 at the moment. If buy from PML then 2.5... PI can stretch to 3.0 for same money...
Test drove the 2.5... ok lah... power is adequate but must agree that it is not fast.

Wah, you all got outing anytime? Want to try to Maser... kekeke... just kidding...
Think for a nice cruiser for S'pore the SL500 is good. Rented one in the US for a couple of days... a looker, nice speed and cruising. Handling is not great but its a GT + got folding hard top.
