What is the systom before fail, when fail?

It feels like the car is choking and lack of power at low end. Almost felt like gears are kaput. Extremely annoying. At high end, car still function as normal. The engine failure light (amber) will come on. After replacement, the car feels fresh, dartly fast and all your bhp returned.
