How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

Just got my pre-owned E90 recently but family says ride too low, too harsh. The car came with aftermarket 19 inch rims and ride seems lowered. I parked beside another E90 yesterday which is on 18 inch and gosh... my car is really much lower. Did not expect it to be such though. Not sure if I should go to the forums recommended workshop and ask to change to stock suspension and 17 inch though. Any advice from experienced bros here? Not sure if my ride is with stock suspension and lowered springs. If so, maybe just change back to normal springs and swap the tires to normal 17 inch? Other than this issue, the car drives just fine! Thanks in advance! :|

Hi JT,

Probably you may want to pay a visit to any of the site sponsors workshop here for a quick check on what's on your car and see what the workshop can help you ...................

for comfort probably stock set up is the best...

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

It might not be only the wheels, might also be the suspensions. Have it checked.

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

Stock suspension and 16 inch will be the most comfy. But if your ride is with bodykit, it will look funny with 16" rims.

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

May I ask how old is your e90?
I heard our 3 series has a common problem whereby the stock suspension gets lowered even though nothing has been adjusted. This is due to wear n tear..
Nonetheless, have it checked. For all u know u might have some kickass coilover installed plus a v nice sart sart 19" rims n tyres.
Btw..what tyres r u running on? That plays a part to comfort too..

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

to make your ride comfortable?

1. put back orignal suspension (shock/spring)

2. put back oem 16"/17" wheel ... use non RFT (run flat tyre) will be even more comfortable

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

Buy stock lexus.

And then after attending a few meetups, mod to coils and 19" wheels again !!!

from ur pic in the avatar,
looks like u have a low profile tyre with 19 inch rims.
not sure about the suspension u r using.
low profile tyres are usually the cause of the bumpy ride.
down size to 18 inch is recommand as there are more after market 18 inch rims avaliable compare to after market 17 inch rims.
unless you plan to get stock 17 or 16 inch rims then stock 16 inch rim would be most comfortable.

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

maybe its just the springs ..... check if its stock or aftermarket.

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

if you put back to stock, next time curve corner beh shiok liao. Better check suspension first.

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

Dear all bros for the valuable experts advices! I made a trip to Top93 and Mr Yang suggested I change to stock 18 inch. Got a set of preowned F10 rims plus new Michelin PS3. The good boss also took a look at my suspension and told me its stock, not sure why my ride is lower too? But now my drive is so so much better! Steering is lighter at least normal to my arms... Normal driving is much less bumpy. Next is to visit the workshop and check the rest of the stuffs. Happy CNY everyone! :shakemyb:

Hi JT1977,

Just curious, is yours e90?
You mentioned you changed to F10 stock 18" rims. So you confirm it fits?
Whats' the specs of your mchelin ps3?

Sorry for the questions but im looking into the same project as what you just did, but iwant to upgrade my stock 16" to 17" or 18" and i like most of the stock F10 18" rims styles.

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

Hi Inspironboy,

Yes mine is a 320i (E90) year 2008. I had been looking around and confirmed that F10 new rims (i.e. the new 5 series) are compatible with our E90. However, the tyre size must change to 225/40/18 (if going for 18 inches). Hence, the original F10 tyres cannot fit, BUT the F10 rims can. Offset and everything else is the same as our E90.

I did this at Top93 through Mr Yang. He strongly recommended me to stick to 18 inches (from my original 19 inches that came with the pre-owned E90). I told him I was worried that steering will still be heavy and drive still unbearably stiff and harsh. He explained that tyres play a big part too and I went with his suggestion eventually. Now, I am very satisfied with my set of wheels. It suits me better. Of course the ride cannot cut corner as well as the 19 inches, but its much more comfortable and moving off traffic junctions not so much inertia.

Hope this helps. :shakemyb:

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

Any difference in the offsets ? The narrower the track - the lighter the steering .....

I'm no expert here, but based on physics, I would think so.

On a side note, does your rear look flush ? I m running staggered 18inch mstyle 193 for bout a year everytime i look at the rear it seems like something is missing

Re: How to make my E90 ride more comfortable?

e90 and f10 share similar offset
for oem 18 staggered setup would be 18x8 +34 225/40/18 and 18x8.5 +37 255/35/18
