COE quotas cut by 12.9 per cent in February

It has begun. The Land Transport Authority has cut the number of Certificates of Entitlement (COE) available for the first bidding exercise in February, right when its latest changes to its classifications take effect.

The total number of COEs that will be up for grabs is 1,558, a 12.9 per cent drop from the 1,789 offered in the last exercise held earlier this month.

Taking the biggest hit are motorcycle COEs, with a 28.2 per cent drop to 361 from 563.

Open category quotas were also shaved 20 per cent to just 208, from 261 in the last exercise.

With the new classification system kicking in, cars with engine power output of more than 97kW or 130 brake horsepower will move up to Category B, which will see its quota reduced from 393 to 360.

Meanwhile, Category A car quotas are reduced from 368 to 362, while goods vehicles and buses will have three more COEs added to their quota from the previous exercise.

They seem to be forcing even the cheapest form of private transport i.e. motorcycle, off the road to squeeze with the already too crowded public transport as the category took the biggest hit with a 28.2 per cent drop to 361 from 563.

My suggestions is that no foreigners are allowed to own cars. If problem still persist , then pr cannot own car also. They do this do that also cannot bring down COE prices. might as well. I think next time we will have to pay full cash for our cars liao

Have my doubts about bringing down the price of COE is in their list of objectives. This is a 'white collar' drug and kicking the addiction requires an overhaul.

Dont ask me for suggestion because there are already ppl paid millions by us to think.

Likely the other way round ......

The foreigners actually thinks we are dumb asses to be paying COE ...... They won't spend this kind of money especially if they are just passing through .....

Take a hard look at whats been happening around the island. Dun just look at what you cant do becos the govt changed the policy/regulation.

f10 520i also 270Nm but 0-100 is less than 8s ...
longer and heavier than volvo s80
bmw over-declare or volvo under-declare?
with 400cc more, 184bhp vs 115bhp ... no fight la ... bmw ftw!

Can almost see the day coming ...... We will all be riding around in honda cubs - machiam Jakarta ......

Hopefully Honda cub COE not more than 50k. This will drive home pricing up even further .......
