I Cannot Brake Properly... =( =( =(

Dear fellow car enthusiasts,

I have a problem.

My brakes are spongy. I am very sad and scared.

Last time 4 pots. Now upgrade 6 pots still spongy.

Very sad. trying bleeding oredi still kana sai.

Any recommendation or solutions?

change brake fluid, stainless steel brakelines, new pads ok liao!

i used to drive an SLK and driven the C class, and S class too.... in my opinion the merc brakes is very spongy for some reason and the pedals are rather 'heavy'... even the 4 pot SLK350 brakes or even the AMG brakes dont feel safe based on my experience...

its so much different with BMW brakes altho it looks ugly and small... nothing compared to merc brakes..cross drilled and 4 pots :nehnehhh: ..its so much more sensitive and feels so much safer...

Huh??? Your AMG stock hoses aren't steel braided?

johnnybravo, AP racing has application for the R171 SLK .... if you have the budget can give it a try... cant go wrong with APs

drive slower, brake earlier and keep a safe following distance...

not trying to be funny here, but there's a limit to what aftermarket mods can do, perhaps the sponginess is just inherent in the way the car was designed? the most important thing is to be familiar with your car and drive within its limits; enjoy your car for what it is.

that said, if you don't already have stainless steel brake lines, you could give that a shot.

Actuallym im just wondering.. when you got the AMG 6 pot BBK, you did not get the steel braided hoses??? If you already have ... how old are your pads??... that's one thing to check too, check how much left is there.

IF you don't have steel braided hoses then maybe that is your porblem altho i would not entirely put your "spongey-ness" on ur hoses alone... your AMG 6 pot is supposed to be pretty bitey from the last one i tried.. so let us know more abt ur situation.. pad wear etc..

OT abit : wah... change to 6 pot ah.... ahem.. faster already uh ...

Merc cars, irregardless of AMG or not, IMO, have a "on-off" brake feel. Its either BRAKEEEEEEEEEEE or none at all, very difficult to modulate.

AMG BBKs should have steel braided hoses that come in the set.

I hv test driven E55 AMG before and not that impresed with the braking feel...maybe I was so used to my very own...

Anyway, I will be surprised if your AMG brake didnt come with ss brakeline. Coz if it didnt, it just wouldnt serve the purpose of a BBK.

Check your brake fluid as well, make sure it's there and aint leaking or drying up.

Think i saw your car today at Ubi.

Anyway, to keep all updated. Changed rear brake pads and braking seems much better now. the rear pads were totally gone.

Pads = S$265/Set
Labour = S$40/Ea

Total costs = S$305.00

Hope these pads will not go too quickly!

Anyone knows whereto get SS brake hoses for my car?

oui brudder... BBK should have SS brake hoses liao la.. double check with ur mech first.. dun kancheong....
