Ignition coil - replacement - E90

Dear all,

Just to share with u all my ignition coil went dead recently.

Engine just suddenly loses power and vibrates badly. At this point of time I suspect either the spark plug is down or the ignition coil.

Car can still move and can start engine anytime. Just that the vibration is bad and sounds like a boxer engine.

I want to assure u that should u face the same problem, car can still drive till u go to a BMW workshop and have the damaged ignition coil replaced.

U can choose to just replace the damaged ignition coil or replace all for safety reasons.

it is recommended to replace the ignition coils every 80,000 KM.

Cheers!

Yup. Happened to my "angry bird" F20 too. It sure sounds like a boxer engine, minus the vibrations.

Heard from WS that when one coil goes off, the others will soon follow.

May want to change all 4/6 coils in one go to save on labour.

Hi guys, yes it would be a good opportunity to change the plugs at the same time. Recommended to change all the coils at the same time to save yourself the trouble. It is very affordable to replace the ignition coils in BMW as compared to Jap cars coil's, which cost 3x more !

I was at Eng Soon yesterday with Francis.

According to official quote from Bosh, change the one that is spoiled as they do not have any idea the service life of the new coil, the reason being the coil is operating under high heat and vibration, noticed that the E-46 M3 need more frequent repalcement of the coild, perhaps due to high vibration at high engine revolution at 8000 RPM.

So u r saying we only change the one that is spoilt and not all?
