Bros,

would like to ask if anyone ever has this observation where u push the engine start to fire up the car, there would be a loud spark sound before it fires up.

It's like a high pitch short circuit kinda of sound. like a very loud "twit" sound..

Okie.. Thanks bros.. Kinda suspected it wasn't normal.: started couple of months back::
Arranged to get them to check thoroughly after cny.. Best part was previously when the new service advisor started my car, I could hear it loud and clear but he claimed he never hear anything..haha

Re: Ignition Sound for E92 M3

Is the sound audible in cabin or outside the car?
With doors shut or open?
Does the sound occur only in the mornings, evenings, afternoons, or after the car is parked for long time, or even after engine is warmed and car is restarted shortly after eg... After pumping petrol...etc.

Have you recently modified / enhanced your sound system? Air intake / engine?

It's louder from outside cabin.. Inside cabin can hear but not so loud.. Car totally stock..occurrence is random.. No particular pattern.. Out of 10-15 starts, the sound occurs 30% of the time? To me, it sounds like spark plug ignition but never ignite properly.. Then again how can it be so loud.. The abnormality also happens even if engine is warmed..

Re: Ignition Sound for E92 M3

Don't have that sound on mine. Why don't you bring to another workshop for diagnostic then back to MA to rectify if needed be before warranty expires

Sounds like an alternative.. Any suggestion on who to go to? Guess I need someone who is extremely good to get sorted out fast.

I have been researching online but doesn't seem like anyone has this sound issue

Ignition Sound for E92 M3

Why not get Munich to compare 2 m3 side by side and ask them if they gave you the option for the loud *twit* without asking you for more $.

Lol.. I asked them to check this issue from 2011 when I got this car brand new.. They couldn't find any issue..on my end, I thought no failures encountered should be ok.. Until recently I spoke to one of their senior workshop staff.. He was very concerned it could be a major problem or maybe a factory defect, hence I tested to replicate this sound consistently.. Normal morning cold start or a restart after a short break with casual driving won't generate this sound.. It's either I drive it for a long time eg 45 min- 1 hour or 20mins but must be spirited driving taking it to 4-5k rpm at least.. Stop the car pump petrol and restart, this sound will come..

Re: Ignition Sound for E92 M3

Really unfortunate you had to bare with this problem for almost 5 years. May I suggest you have a seat down with Munich again and get them to at least acknowledge this is an issue and if possible to rectify the fault if it does cause serious consequences after the warranty period
