In-Vehicle Cams - BEWARE, LTA upto no good.

Hot from the Oven! Just heard from sources within, seems reliable but am unable to confirm at this point of time......

Scenario
Recently LTA realised a lot of vehicle owners have installed the 'vehicle black box' or in-vehicle video camera.

Brain Storming
They are considering e following (from direct source)...
a) to introduce some form of Tax.
b) to introduce only specific brands/models to be approved as in-vehicle video cam.
c) to introduce illegal and legal in-vehicle unit i.e. all in-vehicle video cams will require LTA's approval being installation.

My Synopsis
As more people are installing in-vehicle video cams, LTA seem to see this as another avenue of generating extra money so they are brainstorming on this!

My current feeling
KNNBCCB, don't they have better things to brain storm on? Must be some scholar* writing a new project paper to upz his/her profile

I am just waiting for some announcement and see what kind of unhappiness LTA will stir.

* Pardon my stereotyping as till date, has not exactly proven me wrong.

tax on what? size of SD cards used? :screwedu::screwedu::screwedu:

I guess a lot of neow people install such cameras and use them to post on forums, forward to LTA / TP / ROV / Ministry for Home Affairs / Police etc etc...

from people making out in the dark in public place (apparently some video recorders have IR capability), to filming in restricted zones.... eg...owner of car drives into Changi Naval Base / Military camp / Jurong Island etc.

I hope this 'fresh out of oven' news is hog wash and urban legend.... else.... I'm gonna buy a tak kong smartphone with super high megapixel lens and big memory space...stick it to my windscreen.....

Re: In-Vehicle Cams - BEWARE, LTA upto no good.

What's the rationale on taxing and discouraging in-car cams? Might as well ban smart phones with cams.

Re: In-Vehicle Cams - BEWARE, LTA upto no good.

i heard my friend say that her great grandma has a grand nephew whos cousins mothers sisters son is in the LTA. he say hor....

I too seriously hope it will become just an urban legend too.

With regard to restricted zones e.g. Military Installations, Jurong Island, etc... there is already a blanket ban whereby recording devices of any kind are no permitted unless authorised... thus I have a tiny portable (smaller 2x 50cents size) in-vehicle HD video cam to serve me, in case I have to enter such premises.

But on e other hand, I will not be surprised if LTA passes some rule for requirement to get it registered for legal use. Maybe not too strict where they will approve all in-vehicle video cam but we have to get it registered and approved first (before installation)... registeration and approval requires a fee then it is nothing but money money and more money kind of thing :screwedu:

When I first heard the info, I was like :wtf:

I believe every male who still serve their ICT or had served their ICT will know that all phones with cams are already banned in military installations, since all recording devices/media are banned or not allowed.

I see no logic to discourage in-vehicle cams too unless they want us to register and pay a fee... oh well

Re: In-Vehicle Cams - BEWARE, LTA upto no good.

The old days of paying for radio licence fees may be back. If car camera falls into this category, that would be taxable as well.

Re: In-Vehicle Cams - BEWARE, LTA upto no good.

then.... I'll buy high megapixel with carl zeiss lens smartphone and strap to windscreen....

Re: In-Vehicle Cams - BEWARE, LTA upto no good.

soon..they will tax anything that are within/outside car..the soft toys, decal, sunglasses, condoms, spoilers, bigger rims more tax..etc

Yups but if the RSM is changed to "on e ball" person, sure kana confiscated :hmmidont:

I did witness a few times where NSMen got their smart phone with camera confiscated, LL but to sign write statement and have e phone confiscated... consolation is they will return it upon last day of ICT :laughlik:

Rumor mongering is actually a sin in some religions.

Since young, I have heard slot from my brother's friends' cousins' neighbors' fathers' mum...

Nuff said.
