Increasing membership?

Re: Increasing membership?

AFAIK this forum has never turn away any non-drivers or non-BMWS. Everyone is free to come into this forum and it's monthly meet-ups. Some of our members who used to drive BMWs but who have since changed to other marques continue to be in this forum and even attend the monthly meet-ups. I for one have made many new and good friends since I joined this forum.

Re: Increasing membership?

time for some kinda mega everyone must come meetup event thingy..haha... (just kiddin)

i do agree that its best to not be under PML... if it happens like that, everything abt PML will be good good... nothing bad abt them... stuff like that...
it'll be cool to have more older BMWs join in though

Re: Increasing membership?

some of my ideas:
(1) charity work
(2) treasure hunt
(3) tell ppl abt us tru ani magazine
(4) more flyers...

Re: Increasing membership?

Well, I joined this forum thinking that a car club will have lots of activities, like driving up to West Malaysia etc. It's been 3 months but the only driving is to Neo Tiew at 0700 hours and unfortunately, I'm not a morning person

I have been to the monthly meet up for 3 times now but till now, still unable to answer my wife question, "You go there for what har?". Come next meet up, I still don't know what to tell my wife. Probably better to go play golf instead. Or take my Outlander and said, "Honey, I go join SMC because they organizing a driving trip to Malaysia"

If serious with a membership drive, perhaps more car related activities? At least I can tell my wife, "Dear, we are meeting to discuss our trip to Penang" I could also jio my neighbours to become a member and join in the fun. At my place, almost every other house owns a BMW. One house even has 4 BMW, all black and with the same 2 digits.

Not true lah bro. There is the quarterly tracking session at Sepang. Some guys also group together to do ADT and IDT etc. So it is not juz Neo Tiew.

If BMW-SG is affiliated to PML, we will no longer be independent. That means we cannot endorse anything other than those from PML - products or services likewise. Yep, membership for sure, but we will be leashed like a hound without much autonomy......

Actually we are already well recognized by PML; or else why they are willing to organize events like “PML tech talk” exclusively for us? They have also sponsored gifts during our annual D&D in the past and give our members priority for their track days.

In any case, if Ryan, or the larger member community wants to make this an “official” club, it won’t be with PML, instead, will be directly associated with BMWAG/Asia.

Smaller sub-group gathering activities aside, I agree there are relatively lack of “club level activity”; IMO, this due to lack of volunteers who are willing to stand up and organize for the larger forum community, and when there are such suggestions, the support and take-up rate of the members are generally disappointing.

I am familiar with another car club of German marque (registered), they have tones of activities: Charity drives (one coming up Oct 16th), almost every month there will be morning B-road breakfast drive, sepang track days, overseas driving experience, plus many many social activities ….. all these takes a lot of time, effort and commitments by the club committee and requires the support of the members to make it work.

So, who’s willing to volunteer to step up and do more good for BMWSG? For a start, how about we try to make this year’s D&D the most fun and biggest turnout ever? If you have ideas, come out and say it and do it, else, just support it and sign up.

:)

Re: Increasing membership?

OT abit.... in SG got B-road to drive? i wanto try... didn't know they exist...

but yea, i think a B-Road drive wld be quite interesting...

Re: Increasing membership?

Yes, basically I see a vacuum of enthusiastic volunteers in organising the above said activities, which are all great ideas. Many of the older birds here are starting to lose steam, and since there's no restriction on who can organise what, since in this aspect it's pretty rule-free, why dont like-minded ppl group together to form committees which can organise track days (already running), monthly meetups (already there), BBQ sessions (usually among closer friends), island-wide drives (legal implications), treasure hunt (great idea, but need manpower), tech talks (link already established), annual dinners (happening soon).

There are so many great minds out there, and if everybody can pitch in a little bit, then there'll be more activities for us to participate.

I see the monthly meetup as a great opportunity where people can group together and exchange ideas, form committees, do planning, and take up registration of these events.

Perhaps, we should have booths (made of those foldable table/chairs) with signages on various discussion groups, and volunteers can come up and help to contribute to the management, if not, just sign up for participation.

Money is another issue. money is needed for almost all activities, and usually it's done at cost to the per pax participation (like annual dinner). But it can also be touchy. A totally transparent system can help instill confidence in whichever management committee that are set up.

However, for all the time and $$$ that ryan and alvin has pumped into making this forum run, at the very least, they cannot be financially worse off than before they started this thing. So some $ should also go back to them for compensation, for the never-ending support they have contributed for this forum too.

So, what does an increment in membership and size mean? It means the same small groups of people cannot possibly sustain enough activities to keep it active all the time. This also means, we have to sub-con out such activities management to enthusiastic volunteers.

Perhaps on this note, Ryan can come out with certain guidelines and ideas, sticky them on event management, and let the volunteers come out and execute them. Frankly, with our jobs, families, love life and sex life, there really isnt much time left for these individuals to run every single thing.

With the above done, means more activities, more drawing power, more group togetherness, and therefore, a higher possibility of increased membership, and this forum can grow in strength. More and more sub groups must be encouraged, and since more often than not these groups have "leader(s)", these individuals can lead their groups to more activities.

Perhaps, once or maybe more times, a year, all of these groups can come together for a mega event, all under the umbrella "BMWSG" group. (must book indoor stadium, like that)

And once this structure, this web, is firmly established, we can start to gel with other car clubs even. Much can be done, and much potential can be reaped from these ideas, but the first step, would be to garner more volunteers, and then, all of us can have a proper, low cost, social club with common interests, and everybody can stand to gain from this.

Isnt it fun?

Re: Increasing membership?

All are valid ideas...

But one thing that is equally important and is always forgotten.....I am a little disappointed with this aspet to be frank..

Pls SHARE YOUR MODS WITH OTHERS (u can decide wot not to share if u know wot i mean ).....by posting in forum....Take some pix, post them up..What's so difficult about that?
This creates curiosity and interests. And undoubtedly opens a path to a widened circle of not just mod heads but becoming good friends perhaps. Then the words spread.....swee2x...
