Increasing Service Interval???

My E90 has its Service Interval gradually increasing instead of decreasing. It has gone from 25K to 31K although I have travelled only 3K plus. Anyone has the same problem?

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

Hi BMWPSG,

I had a similar issue. My svc interval indicator went up to 35'000 km. According to PML, the metre theoratically can go up to 40,000km. It all depends on the way you drive and the kind of journeys you make. So if you are gentle on the accelerator, and do long distances without halting, then the indicator will go up, meaning your oil can last longer. It is not a defect.

Btw, PSG doesn't stand for personal systems group, does it?

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

Mine went from 25k to 28k and now back to 27k. I've travelled close to 4000km so far.

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

Looks like the free service is not such a good deal after all. At most can get free Inspection I. Should have opted out of the deal and maybe get 3K rebate like someone in the forum did. But then, it could be because I was really NICE and GENTLE to the car during the run in period.

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

So I take this to be that the FREE SERVICE only applicable at the indicated level?
It is kind of scaring to send car for servicing after only about 30,000km.

couldnt agree more! my service indicator is 28k now :ehhh:

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

i'm not sure abt the free servicing t&c coz i bought my car 1month earlier and at a much higher price. there was no free servicing offered then. :(

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

Just to avoid confusion, the free service is the BSI (I think). It has always come free with the 5 series.
My 3 series fortunately, or worthless come with it. (I am sure it is not exactly worthless...I would not even pay anything more than $1000 for it though)

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

I was told if you send in the car before the service interval is up,
you have to pay for the services. Hmm.... :sleepy:
The oil so good huh? can last so long.....?

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

The service interval according to the manual is the amount of distance left to cover before service. My previous e46 is effectively 20K although it started with 25K. If the current service interval says 31K and I have almost covered 4K...this means 35K!!! Simply unbelievable. Scary to let an expensive car stinge on a oil change.

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

My E90 has already done 14+k. I had my 1st oil changed at 12K @ BVO and I will bring it to PML when it reach 25k. Don't care what the manual says or what the on borad computer is suggesting. I am not going to let oil in my the engine that runs everyday for too long. I know of members who change oil after first 5K.

Re: Increasing Service Interval???

The on board computer is so smart as it keeps track of your driving habits and stop-go frequencies. In any case servicing intervals are so far apart as they keep making better and better engines with synthetic oils! Enjoy your ride. Don't bother about servicing until you are told to send in your car. Maintenance nowadays is so idiot-proof!
