I was trying to sell off a steering wheel cover that has been kept in my office for a long time, and I realised that many people don't know that there are different types of steering wheels for the E60. So for the benefit of the E60 newbies here, let me compile a list of what I know.

Pre LCI E60 (Year 2003 - mid 2007):
Stock steering wheel looks iike this:

LCI E60 (from mid 2007):
Stock steering wheel looks like this:

Both stock steering wheels come with triangular shape airbags (or shape like superman logo), but they are of different size. Hence the airbags are not interchangeable.

The rear mountings for these 2 steering wheels are different also, and hence they are not interchangeable again. Which means you can't fit a LCI steering wheel into a pre LCI and vice versa.

Besides the stock steering wheel, there are a few other options, some come with the Sports package cars, and some are retrofitted by owners.

The following steering wheels looks the same for both LCI and pre LCI from the front, but the rear mountings are different, so they are not interchangeable again. All the following comes with round airbags:

Hope above info is useful to the newbies. Remember to thank me! Haha...

Btw, I've decided to keep the steering cover aka Y plate that I wanted to sell. Too much hassle to sell a $40 thing! Thought it could finance my ciggies addiction for a few days... haiz......

PRe LCi, 04-05Oct vs 05Nov-07 (Key start vs push start steering also a bit different. have to retrofit)

Oh yes, you're right. The change in the back mounting starts from the push button start models and not start from LCI. The back mounting of the 'new' steering wheel looks like this:

The "T" shape connector of the key start models looks different. Sorry can't find a pic for this.
