Inspection II

Hi All,

My FL-320i is coming up to 73,000 kms and will be due for Inspection II.

As the warranty on my car is also expiring in 2-3 months time, I'm considering saving loads of money by servicing my car outside PML.

But looking at what PML includes in Inspection II (which is very comprehensive and takes 2 days), I'm wondering if any of the outside workshops provide similar packages which are just as comprehensive, but at a much lower cost.

Or should I just go ahead with Inpection II at PML (and prepare for the bomb) and then continue outside thereafter ?

Not knowing much about cars, I'm naturally concerned about what could go wrong with the car and the idea of a comprehensive all-in-one inspection is rather appealing.

But the thought of Inspection II costing nearly 1 K (not including the cost of parts that PML will advise me to replace) is equally, if not more daunting.

Any kind soul out there who cares to dish out some advice ? Thanks so much in advance.

:huhhuh: :huhhuh: :huhhuh:

think you can half the cost at outside workshops... two days at PML seems comprehensive if you think they actually check everything on the list...

but if it is peace of mind, i would send it to PML... i dont remember paying more than 1k total for my old E36 two years ago at PML...

Bro,

My ride was the under 1 year warranty type. So non-issue for me. I adopt a "if it ain't broken, dun fix it" policy. So why not send your ride to a reliable external BMW workshop to do routine servicing. They will have their own package as well based on your mileage. At the same time, ask them to check your ride for u and see if there are any warranty parts that require replacement and if yes not to change those parts. After finishing your servicing, juz head down to PML and identify the areas where u wish to claim warranty. Best of both worlds.

As for workshops, juz go those listed in the workshop folder of this forum. Cheers

Going for inspection only...not going for Paris Dakka rally...dun need to waste the money at PML.

Normally, just ensure that your brakes, light is working.
Service your car before sending in for the inspection is good enough.

My 2 cents.

Any idea whether PML is still offering the extension of the warranty by paying a nominal sum?

regards,

elliot

Assuming you haven't already done it, Inspection II basically involves looking at stuff and doing an oil change, cabin filter change. If your warranty doesn't require main dealer servicing, don't take it to one, but make sure the person you do take it to is trustworthy. If you don't know a lot about fixing cars and diagnosing problems, it is actually worth doing because an honest mechanic may notice stuff you don't.

Over here in the US, I wouldn't trust a BMW dealer to actually do everything on the list, so you have to trust that the place you take it to will not cheat you.

BTW, PML is damn cheap - over here the dealers charge c. US$800! S$1000 is what an independent specialist would charge...
