Intake install, how will ECU respond?

Hey, I had a quick question for everyone. On my previous car a 2002 ford focus ZX3, when I installed my CAI I had to unplug the battery so the engine computer was tuned off and it could restart to be able to cope with the new air going into the engine.

Do I have to do this to my BMW? Does it respond automaticaly? Can anyone tell me of the processes?

I have a 2003 BMW 320i, if you need to know.

Re: Intake install, how will ECU respond?

The ECU will sense the change in the MAF readings and respond accordingly.
No need to reset.

BMW brain is smarter so it will sense and adapt accordingly
Bangles says one.

Re: Intake install, how will ECU respond?

You can do an adaptive reset if you would like..but honestly your bmw will just adapt anyway.

(copy and paste) Turn the ignition switch on (without starting the engine) for 10 secs, turn it off for another 10 secs and then start the engine.

Bimmers have brains so it'll definitely adapt. I'll know if mine does very soon.

Re: Intake install, how will ECU respond?

It's a Bosch brain, not a BMW brain. BMW just designs the car! components in a BMW are probably a lot the same as on a Skoda.
