Intro...

Hi to all,
I'm currently not driving a BM but own a 93 320 and a 98 520 before... great car!!
It's my dream to own a cabriolet and I've been looking around... thought of the Boxster,
CLK and will finally settle for a 3 series cab! That's why I've been on the web for a couple of nights and finally bumped into you all. I was told by PML that the 3 series cab will not be available till mid 06. So my question is to all who own a 3 cab.... is it fun?
Cheers,
Cayman.

Re: Intro...

Hi there Cayman and welcome. I don't own a cab but I can tell you it's certainly fun. Do come for our next meetup at the end of this month and meet the topless guys. I'm suree you'll gonna find it fun and most useful.

Re: Intro...

agree with rod. do come to the meetup and learn more from the cabbies themselves! muahahaha!

Re: Intro...

Definitely possess the fun and cool factor.....no problems & no regrets ....period.
Currently driving one........that's the reason for my nick ;)

Since, you have 2 used bimmers, have a look at another used cab........

Re: Intro...

I have had a chance to drive topless before. It is a damn good feeling in conducive weather such as early mornings and late nites when the air is cooler. For me, if I am looking for a second car, a cabrio will be the way to go.

If u are only gonna have one ride, then the impracticality of a coupe/cabrio etc will have to be factored.

Re: Intro...

Was trying to get my hands on a BM cab a while back. They are hard to come by, and retain their value well. I tried the base 320, but felt it was even more sluggish than my saloon 320. Probably a weight issue. I than went on to look at 325 and 330, but they command quite a premium (export market is quite good for this car)

I finally settled for a S2000. Nice to drive topless, absolutely no blind spot (no C pillar intrusion) and the roadster is tiny, you can just abt squeeze into any amount of space. The other thing is the tiny S2000 engine gets you the instantaneous respond you want to squeeze into tight space you want, I suspect the 330i will be the same (was previously driving a volvo T5, and there was quite a bit of lag, and you would have just miss the space)

So guess if you have the budget, cabs are really quite fun to drive, but you may want to look at at least a 6 cyclinder engine. Than again, that is just my view, a lot of people are just happy to cruise along.

Re: Intro...

Welcome to the forum Cayman. Cabs are a different thing from sedans or coupes as they carry more 'wow' factor and is much more of a lifestyle car. As Rod said, come down to our meetup this month and talk to the topless guys..

Re: Intro...

Dearest All,
you guys are really enthusiats!! Went down to Commonwealth Car Mart to view a 325 Cab and the asking price is $170,000. The car was registered 04/04 and mileage only 16k. Too bad the interior is light grey.... Midnight Blue is ok as exterior for me. I'll drop by this month end... apology for asking but where and when is the meet? And sincere appreciation for all your response!!
Cheers,
Cayman.

Re: Intro...

The meetups are held at 4.30pm on the last Sunday of every month and is at the huge carpark beside Kallang MacDonald's.

Re: Intro...

So the next meet-up will be on 27th Nov. Hope to see u there. I am sure all your qns will be answered.

Re: Intro...

YUP!!! driving top down is really a different sensation altogether... n u dont have to really drive hard or fast somemore... n espcially in the cool coool evenings... ( n its going to get Cooler-er... ha ) :)

think the 3 series' the less selfish kind.. . u can very comfortably put in 3 other passengers... big or small ( i've got a 5yr son that absolutely gets a kick everytime we drive top down... ha )

good luck!! hope u find ur topless beauty soon...

:)

Re: Intro...

Cayman,

Cabrios are fun. Here are the merits and shortcomings:

Pluses:

(1) Wow factor, babe magnet, head turner, no matter how you name it. No dispute about it.
(2) Best of both worlds - have top when you need it, open top when you want it topless.
(3) Still a 4-seater. Better than roadsters in that aspect.

Minuses?
(1) Weight. About 200 kg heavier than sedan with same engine. Means you have to sacrifice performance in power-weight terms.
(2) Rattling sounds throughout. Car is not as quiet as compared to sedans or coupes.
(3) More care for canopy, given its (a) hydraulics and (b) delicate fabric (need impregnator)

(4) Jiao Sai easy to clean off.. no stain left behind.

Re: Intro...

Hahaha... Jiao Sai! That's a really good one!
I was told the cat loves Cab's fabric!! It's good for them to sharpen their claws.... any one has this ill experience? This'll be my first time meeting so many Bimmer Crazes.... quite intimidating for someone pulling in with a Honda Odyssey!
Anyone got comment for the $170K asking price for a 04/04 325 Cab? Fair? I personally feel it's a bit too steep.... any comment on wind deflector for 3 series?
Cheers!

Stock or kitted? Else we have an AC-kitted 325 cab lingering around. Doctor Yuen, where are you?
