iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

Following up on will's comments and links on the iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G...

It sux (Will - I was wrong ;)). The issue as I see it is that the OS launches some processes and never shuts them down (Safari, Mail etc.). Even the usual memoryinfo app which I use wasnt able to close these. As a result, the phone works nicely post a restart but in about 4-5 hours - it is DEAD slow.

To get optimal performance from your 3G, stick to OS 3.1.x.

If you have gone ahead (i.e. impatient like me) and have turned your iPhone into a tortoise toy, follow this step-by-step I put together to get it back to 3.1.x and enjoy your iPhone again.

Here's the link.

Cheers

Yes man... mine laggy like siao.... sianz.

Thanks for the link.

Re: iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

absolutely. i don't think 3G hardware is able to handle IOS4. 3GS perhaps but ideally is to wait for iPhone 4 :D

Re: iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

It's ok if you do not open / use too many apps.....

even for 3GS, I found that re-booting the phone more frequently once or twice a day helps.

Re: iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

it seems fine on mine but my fren has a tough time upgrading it to OS4.

Re: iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

I am having a pain-in-the-BU@# trying to upgrade my 3Gs to OS4 on iTune9.2 .......the backup process is taking such BLOO@# long time that I gave up :mad::mad:

agree it sux... lotsa times apps will shut down halfway too

that will probably be the case for many apps till they are updated to be compatible with 4.0, 4.1

Correct. Most apps are not OS4 compatible yet. Example Photoshare doesn't work on OS4.

if there is a problem with the upgrading to OS4. try deleting those podcast apps. it will help.

but overall...OS4 is a good OS with 3GS.....

Before the upgrade, backup 1st. Once backup, start the upgrade (which involves backup again). The reason for long time to back up is that it has not been backup for sometime.

On my 3GS, it is painless 30mins process. It seems like multi tasking is not really working.

Re: iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

3G not enough ram for this OS upgrade. On average my 3G has about 50MB of available memory if I'm not multitasking, compared to a 3GS which has 250MB+ of free mem in the same state.

Re: iPhone 3G + iOS 4.0 = Disaster

mine seems better with the os4, except for the bowling game which dies during startup.
then again, my phone's pretty lean, not much stuff stored inside anyway...just apps n pics

Agree on the first part but 3G has no multi-tasking capability even after upgrade to OS4 lah. Are you referring to letting the iPod play music while you surf, answer SMS, etc?

I feel that the double-click on the Home button is not sensitive enough to bring up the multi-tasking screen. Just got to practise lor...

Really? haha...den what's the point of upgrading to OS4 for 3G? Assuming it's working as it should.

Dun exactly know why, but I have always had difficulty backing up, which seems like its hanged...is there anything that I should turn on or delete? Thus far, I do not have any podcast app installed... Thanks.
