Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

very lost here.....so u changed at j4c already or went to MA to change??
anyway, its very subjective.....different ppl different needs.
some prefer a usual mechanic like Ah Wee, Rodney etc or whomever to touch their cars.
some don't mind paying a bit higher or comparable to AD with outside workshops they are comfortable with.
some just want their repair work done fast.
some prefer a nice environment with kopi n meimeis SA.

to be honest, MA is a big improvement for the ADs compared to what the bros been having from PML.

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

Many still go back PML hor.. so that when they sell cars, they can say "Full PML records"

She said, AIYA I COULD HAVE CHARGED YOU ONLY $80 instead of the $120 you paid.

Have to be careful and check the fine print. $80 only for washing head whereas he paid $120 for twice orgasms and got free shampoo.

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

i won't bother if the difference in cost is minimal.

what i want is peace of mind - that diagnosis is correct, that the problems diagnosed are remedied, and i won't get the same problems again.

cos things break down eventually, but the last thing i need is downtime when i can't drive the car. what good is the ultimate driving machine when it is sitting in the workshop?

lastly, the workshop must not treat me like i am some idiot who doesn't know a thing about cars and throw smoke to explain things they themselves do not understand.

To add... after changing the parts at J4C, i went to MA to ask for quotation.

First surprise: They are authorised workshop but charges lower.
Second surprise: They asked if i wanted to proceed with the repairs. I replied i had already changed but merely wanted to find out how much they charge.

Then their reply shocked me. "Eh? You replaced the parts already? How come still got sound?"

I don't know if i should laugh or cry. Did J4C do a good job or MA bs me? :p

What is the sound like? So MA solved ur problem?

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

I think the most important question is wether J4C carry out the repair properly.

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

Any non AD, since they do not have to invest heavily in original equipment, official training, office/ workshop setup, inventory etc etc, SHOULD be able to charge a price that is reasonably lower.

do not agree with your POV, otherwise, give me a good reason to remain loyal to the AD...

so PML has the license, so to speak, to charge their customers more?

then gimme a non-AD anytime - one who is able to solve my problems, and still charge less...

on the contrary, ADs should be charging less since they would already have made profits from 1) selling the car and 2) selling the OEM parts.

talking abt inventory...since they are AD and given economies of scale, they SHOULD then be able to charge a price that is reasonably lower too for parts....:woottt:....but seems otherwise....hahaha

anyway, the choice of a workshop varies with each individual....in short, to each his own.
just like one man's meat is another man's poison
all of us have our likes, dislikes, demands, needs, budget, etc......just to need to find the right workshop and tao chiu that suits our expectation.

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

I have to say we tend to assume going to AD will be more expensive bcos of their high overhead, training, better equipment and aftersales assurance.

Going to outside workshop is for people who wants cheaper alternative. At least that was my intention. So whatever I was quoted surely seem reasonable thinking that AD should be in the region of S$500? But I got a shock when the bill came. The labour was very high but I wasn't sure until I checked with MA.

Then if you compare the parts, I don't know if they used original parts but assuming they did, I still find the prices unjustifiable comparing with MA.

I wonder, are we carrot heads or AD are charging too little?

Isn't this similar to going to a restaurant without menu/price and end up being charged very high?

How about changing of engine oil? If you bring your own engine oil, they want to charge me additional S$30. I have to pay labour too. However if I use their in house engine oil, their price is about S$50 more. So going back to AD seemed cheaper I guess?

Don't flame me. Just want to share my experience. (I thought the price gap would be wide but it was only a few cents!?)

This is important and yes they did. But some points to ponder:
A. MA was certain my car wasn't repaired 100%.
B. Were original parts used?
C. If AD and outside workshop can repair, isn't it supposed to be cheaper to go outside workshop?
D. AD gives longer warranties as compared to 3 months.
E. Why was labour charges higher at J4C than MA?

Re: Is J4C charging too much or MA charging too little!?

its a good experience that you have raised.
just to be fair to other workshops, there are some that charge lesser on labour charges and parts, ie thats what some of us term the unbranded workshops that does almost any type of car just like the workshop i used to go to at Kim Chuan terrace, the boss there was very experienced doing from toyotas to porsche n bmws but some ppl might not wanna go cos its really those ordinary run down looking workshop, no fancy showroom, a no frills type of experience but i guess its one of those cheaper outside workshops that some folks may be mentioning or contemplating.

each workshop have their own mgmt style, costing, running costs, profit margins so i guess we can't really fault them....the only alternative is perhaps to find one thats fits your requirements.
even for MA in this case, i think of them 1stly as a workshop then a AD in order not to burden our judgement on their charges which i think they are pretty competitive...not too sure abt PML though....keke

A. As the saying goes.... if i'm selling you strawberries... ofcoz i would say mine are sweeter...

B. Original parts - Just call Eng Soon, they would be able to quote you the price for ORIGINAL parts and OEM parts (if any). From there, you could gauge what's used on your car are original or not... Alternatively, you could ask the workshop that repairs your ride too.

E. I personally thinks that it's not a fair comparison to just compare only labour charges..............

It should be based on overall package or work done. Just like you had mentioned earlier about changing of engine oil......... bring your own oil... ofcoz labour charges would be higher then u getting the oil from them and they change it for you.

What would you say if i tell you that a workshop will provide you FREE labour charges BUT parts are price higher.... so LPPL.... total price will still be S$350.00 +/-...... So this workshop will be highly recommended becoz of the FREE labour charges????

No punt intended........ :D:D:D
