Issues when changing rims

Bros, newbie to BMW here. Tried searching for relevant thread but given up due to the huge database in the forum. Collecting my 318i soon and intend to upgrade to 18 inches staggered rims. However, heard BMW got problems with the lights at the dashboard area and told that light will light up if changing rims. May I know how to resolve this issue? I have no idea what lightwould come out but presume the tyre pressure lights? Any expert advice?

heard from who? the fellow who told you must give you the solution also... if not, everyone will only give everyone else a problem.

there is a tyre pressure reset button on your OBC [onboard computer] to resolve this. 4 sec solution. manual can also help.

nonsense....only differentiate in tyre pressures will cause the lightup to inform you that there is a pressure lost. This can easily be reset by yourself once the problem is rectified.

Bros chershen and 320i. Thanks for your valuable advices. Heard from workshop mechanic and an ex-BMW owner. Looks like it's an easy solution to an uncertainty that had been bugging me. Mai tu Liao ... :)

Re: Issues when changing rims

you are supposed to re set the OBC Pressure censor whenever you do anything related to your tyre(pressure change/puncture repair).
1 thing i do not understand why are new car owners are not briefed:shakehea: about all this basic operating when they pickup the new car.

really depends on the sales person who delivers the car to u. a good one will sit u down a good 45 mins to run through the important features of the car.

having said that there r some owners who may not be tech savy or claim that it was not told to them even though its not the case. in any case theres always the user manual to fall back on.

Re: Issues when changing rims

A good sales personnel should brief the new car owner about the OBC basic operation.
off course we dont expect them to knwo about engine operation:nehnehhh:
example few years back 1 of my uncle got a flat tyre(Audi A4) and he discovered his rim got factory OEM wheel lock, and he was seaching up and down the whole car for the key.
at last he called the salesman and he said you car got wheel lock meh:confused:.
after that he spent 30mins for the worlkshop to come back to him the wheel lock key was packed inside a side compartment of the tools bag.
To me this type of emengency tool and equipment must be briefed before you hand over the car.

Re: Issues when changing rims

dun be conned into changing an 18" with the incorrect offset then put spacers to rectify the initial error. go for the correct offset!

Shouldn't we read the owner manual after we pick up the car? Long long time ago, i was given the key to drive E36 325 for a wk. I still rem to read owner manual the nite b4.

Good advice. They could also check factory offset for 18" as a guide.
