Re: LED light
Yup, changed the light and had no problems.
I dropped by one of those light and ICE accessories shops opp. PML Alexandra one day when I was trying to kill some time. Wanted to do this long ago, but didn’t get around to it till recently. Inspired by ‘j8833t’ lah…
Was initially looking for white bulbs (actually looks blue) to replace the existing tungsten bulbs for the rear number plate lights. They did not have any of the white bulbs of the correct wattage and offered the LED ones instead.
Asked the auntie there to let me try it on without any cost (just in case it didn’t work).
REMOVAL – Open the boot. It’s easier this way. On top of the license plates are 2 lamps that house the bulbs. You need the screwdriver to pry the plastic transparent covers out. It’s quite easy. Just insert the screwdriver into the slot on the right side of the transparent cover and gently lever it out.
The bulb is under the cover, wedged in between 2 metal pieces on the sides. These are the contacts. Using the screwdriver again, GENTLY pry the bulb out. I would like to emphasise GENTLY – the bulb may be hot if you have just switched on your lights, and you don’t want to break it.
INSTALLATION – Check that your new bulbs are the correct wattage – 5W. Anything more and there’s a chance that the plastic housing will melt – too much heat generated. You can either use the white (blue coloured) bulbs which are around S$1 each, or the LED-type bulbs (I bought them for S$17 each). Just fit them and voila! You’re done. Make sure to clip the transparent covers back snugly, mine have been popping out now and then.
Switch on your lights at night and stand back to admire the new cool look.
Have fun!
