LEXUS GS300 VS BMW 525i

Hello,

Can someone who had already did this comparsion, help with opinion (pesonal bias opinion is fine), of the LEXUS GS300 (SUPER LUXURY) VERSUS The BMW 525i ?? I had tested the GS300 already, like it. I like car with luxurous and soft interior, very comfortable seat, Extremely good Audiophile Quality HIFI (yes I listen classical as well as Pop Music), hope to have rear DVD screen but GS300 did not have it, GPS+bluetooth+rear camera+parking assist. From Paper the GS300 is 245HP whereas 525 has less at 218 HP (both car weight about same. Not sure if this is good way to judge "power"?? Isnt this 27HP difference big?? I am thinking of waiting for the LEXUS GS450H HyBrid to come to Singapore before I make any decision.

HP figures are irrelevant for most purposes, so just take a look at the torque figures to give you a measure of the PULLING power.

Before you decide, the Lexus has direct injection so take a look at the fuel consumption figures too.

Have not test drive the 525i. I plan to... I saw from web price the price is not very far away.

This is an age old debate. Before I bought my car, I too, looked at both cars. In fact, 4 cars in all, the E Class, A6, GS and 5 series. It too boiled down to the GS vs the 5.

Really, all the cars satisfy different wants/needs. The GS is a nice comfortable cruiser and with the Super Lux version, all the little toys you want, Bluetooth, reverse camera, touch screen LCD etc... I found the back of the GS a little too cramp vs the 5 rear seating.

The 5, on he other hand, will out corner a GS, even in 523 (stock) guise.

It is just two different cars in the same segment. If driving is your game, the 5, if comfort is your priority, then GS...

I have driven both. And also did the IS250/e90 comparison. Yes, i guess its getting to be a well known discussion. I heard BMW chief on TV saying that Lexus is their rival. Anyway, both are great cars, but for different tastes. Perhaps the BMW is further closer to the Lexus in handling compared to the Lexus being slighly further ahead in the refinement stakes. But for me the complete ownership experience is paramount, including issues such as warrentee backing, aftersales, reliability and longevity. I like the 525i. And the 530i even more, but my head says GS in this comparo.

I agreed, I knows Japanese Car is certainly more reliable I heard stories about Brand New German Car going into service workshop for defects. I had driven a few Jap car and none of them gives me problem. Right now my head and my mind is to get the GS300 or wait until end this year if Borneo do decide to bring in GS450H, I have not even tested BMW 525i perhaps I will weekend. I had tested Merc E230,felt like driving a military tank.

I thought I remember BM saying they wll bring in every Lexus hybrid variant.

If you're the kind of person who would consider the GS450H, you'd love the Lexus to the BMW. The weight ... OMFG.
