LTA Homologation for new models??

Greetings forumers

I just returned to Singapore for good after working overseas in Taiwan for 7 years. Was previously driving a C63 AMG followed by an F80 M3 until I returned last week but that is not the topic of this thread.

I dropped by the PML showroom having great interest in buying the new 340i which has the new B58 IL6 engine, but was informed that if I ordered the 340i with the M Sport package + M Performance exhaust etc, that the car being a new model, if package was never installed on any 340i in Singapore before, that it will be subject to LTA "homologation" (simi england word lai eh?!) of additional 2-3 months after the car arrives in Singapore?

TLDR version: 4 months waiting for car to arrive then + 2 to 3 months for LTA to "homologate" new model with M sport package = 6 to 7 months total wait?? I asked the sales rep several times (to be fair, she was really very friendly and helpful, no complaints) and the above-mentioned was confirmed.

Anyone here faced this situation before? Can someone let me know if the above-mentioned is true?

Thanks a lot in advance!

This is true especially if the model bringing in that have any add on new features which are not the norm from the stock in. It will take some time for LTA to perform test. It is at their mercy. U need to be patient.

the LTA part, i not sure.. but sometime to bring in the normal model (316i for my time) required 4 mths wait... (was inform that once the order made.. South Africa will commence manufacture)... so ur 2-3 mths i personally think, is ok...

jus interested.. iirc 340i is abt 260k (might remember wrong)... the monee can easily get other model.. 4, 5, x3, x4... y 340i ?? :)

Dear friends

Thanks for your quick replies, much appreciated! I might have to re-weigh the additional options I want vs the additional 2-3 months time I might have to wait for LTA to do their thing. Perhaps the fastest option is to order a 陽春 340i and avoid the LTA homologation thing and fit after-market whatever things.

@ob3lix - yeah the F30 appeals to me more than the 4, 5, X3/4 + the B58 IL6 engine

Cheers all

If u r not keen on mod after that, juz wait lor. Stock installation will have more value if u decide to sell the car a few years down the road.

But i heard that the first car that goes will go thru a series of test which seems quite a torture on the new car. So better not be the one to get sent for homologation.

Thanks all for your advice.

After some negotiations, managed to seal the deal with a very reasonable offer. No M Sport package = no homologation = no worries ;)

And now for the long wait until ETA Oct for my 340i to arrive... o_O

Congrats on your ride Thomas. When to see the 435i but was told that 440i coming... Hopefully the new 440i does comes with the M Sports package at stock like the 428i Now....

It happened to me previously when collecting my wife M235 cab from Munich, LTA claim it was a new model but it doesn't make sense when they already done the M235 coupe.

But mine was first cabriolet in Singapore. LTA took 2 to 3 months to homologate the car, it doesn't help when mine is with almost full options including the M performance exhaust. it took them longer to approve lol

it was hell, every other maker was in a long queue waiting for LTA to perform the so call homologation which took less than a hr. when they are moving in snail pace.

Enjoy your new ride :Biggrin::Biggrin::Biggrin::Biggrin::Bigeyes::Bigeyes::Bigeyes:

Wow now that was a looooong wait. Good thing that you have it now ;)

Yeah I heard from PML that LTA are really "cautious" and take their time to do their homologation now, especially after the VW saga.

Can't wait for it to arrive already :)
