Singaporean leads cops on 20km car chase after failed bribe attempt

BY ZAZALI MUSA

JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean businessman led police on a 20km car chase when he tried to flee after failing to bribe them last Sunday.

In the 11.30pm incident, the 50-year old suspect, driving a Mercedes Benz, was headed to Singapore when he tried to cut the vehicle queue at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex (CIQ), obstructing other vehicles in the process.

Two police traffic officers on duty at the CIQ complex then tried to take him to the nearest police station.

However, the man then got agitated and refused to cooperate, and offered a RM550 bribe to L/Kpl Awang Mohd Massahdi Awang Abunawas and L/Kpl Mashri Sedek.

"We were waiting for assistance before sending him to the nearby Central police station, but the suspect decided to speed off in his car,’’ said Awang Mohd.

The 20-minute pursuit took them all the way to Taman Sri Putri in Skudai, about 20km away.

Lance Corporal Awang Mohd Massahdi Awang Abunawas and Lance Corporal Mashri Sedek with their certificates of commendation.
Awang Mohd Massahdi, 33, and Mashri, 34, related the incident this when met after receiving their certificates of commendation from Johor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhar Mohd Shariff at the state police contingent headquarters on Tuesday.

Awang Mohd and Mashri said they been working with the police traffic unit for 11 and 15 years respectively.

"This is the first time someone tried to bribe us," said Mashri.

The suspect has been remanded for four days from August 11 to 14, and the case is being investigated under Section 186/214 of the Penal Code, where he faces a two-year jail sentence if found guilty.

Yup. Because their lunch cockporals all busy catching towkays in Mercs blocking traffic instead of protecting citizens and arresting highway robbers.

@wobbles.... Please take note..... The blue note RM 50 is not the current denominator....

RM550 attempted bribe but failed....still got mata chase and arrest lock you up.....

I think s65 amg owner tried to bribe mata..... Offer so big yet epic fail....

Questions -

(1) How did the police know it was RM550? They counted?
(2) Else, why would the driver offer RM550? "Hey, here's RM550.... piss off, lemme go...."
(3) Even if bribing, why this amount?

Re: Lucky its not a BMW (again!): Singaporean leads cops on 20km car chase

Mebbe bribe offer was RM1000. Lunch Copulators took RM450 and gave chase to make themselves look good in the media. Besides, even Mata chias have to WOT BOV KK (Klear Karburn) once in a while right? Not bad what, got RM450 in pocket and still get Certificate of Commendation to show to relatives at Raya time! SMART!

RM550 is like 25% of a L/Cpl monthly pay. What were they thinking when they rejected the offer?

Maybe negotiation broke down. Cost of living also high now in Bolehland? 550 divided by 2 could be too low.

Most likely they cannot tahan the yaya businessman who thinks his E200 is damn atas. They always say over there that "style mesti ada". Want to tip them for good service also must have the right technique.

Honestly, I say "orbigoot" as I hate those queue cutters at the CIQ.

Once an SG Audi Q3 was ramped on the side by a MY van because the van wants in. The Audi was in front of me so it could have been me involved. I think the Audi did not even have a chance to give way because the van just drove in.

My in-car video also no use in bolehland. I doubt he could get insurance claim from the MY driver.
