M Performace Brakes squeaking when engaged at low speeds

Dear Brothers,

I noticed that my M performance brakes squeak at very low speeds when I engaged them. Anyone facing this issue? I read the other forums and they said it is apparent in BMW makes (Well, this is my first BMW). Their advice is to break hard a couple of times.

Any help guys? I doubt is the break pads because my car is new and stands at 2600km only. I am driving a 118i M sport edition.

Thanks BMW team!

Reuben

Thanks bro! I did that and it says I need to run in and break HARD? Weird and my brakes are too new apparently for a squeal to happen.

Proper bedding in and sometimes some anti squeal grease / spray will help. Even for new pads.

I believe to apply the anti-squeal grease or spray, I will need to go a workshop right?

Re: M Performace Brakes squeaking when engaged at low speeds

Haha! Good idea. I just got back driving from Old Holland Road and breaking hard to see if it works. It helped slightly.

I have the same problem but after 1 or 2 weeks, squeak sound gets softer n softer. Now is much better. I didn't do anything about it.

use your brake more ... bed it nicely

Re: M Performace Brakes squeaking when engaged at low speeds

Thanks guys! You are awesome. This is what I read about bedding. Thinking if I should try it!

"From 60mph, gently apply the brakes a couple of times to bring them up to operating temperature. This prevents you from thermally shocking the rotors and pads in the next steps.

Make eight to ten near-stops from 60mph to about 10-15 mph. Do it HARD by pressing the brakes firmly, but do not lock the wheels or engage ABS. At the end of each slowdown, immediately accelerate back to 60mph and then apply the brakes again. DO NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP! If you stop completely and sit with your foot on the brake pedal, you will imprint pad material onto the hot rotors, which could lead to vibration and uneven braking.

The brakes may begin to fade after the 7th or 8th near-stop. This fade will stabilize, but not completely go away until the brakes have fully cooled. A strong smell from the brakes, and even some smoke, is normal.

After the last near-stop, accelerate back up to speed and cruise for a while, using the brakes as little as possible. The brakes need only a few minutes to cool down. Try not to become trapped in traffic or come to a complete stop while the brakes are still very hot"

Re: M Performace Brakes squeaking when engaged at low speeds

I suffer that too.
Almost unbearable already, and not the first encounter.
I am using 6 port BMW Performance Brakes.

This is probably due to the mismatching line patterns on the disc and pads.
The "hundreds" of lines on the disc and pads, resulting in a combined "melody" of squeals.

It could be due to dirt as well, but my experiences tell me less likely.

I am not a mechanic, and my recent conversation at a bmw specialist "K" from "####" located in Paya Ubi, had explained why and recommended a solution to me.
But prepare a damage of about $400-500.

I probably make the change over the next few weeks when time permits.

Oh no bro.. I am sorry to hear that.

I just checked with my friend who drives a M3, he told me for high performance brakes (especially yours with 6 port), it is advisable to do bedding. My stock M brakes a 4 port and 2 port (Front and back respectively) squeal is very minute but annoying still when in low speeds.

Let me help you find out more.

Also, read the link I posted? :)
