M3 fuel consumption...

Hi guys, I know FC is highly subjective on driver habits and traffic conditions, and I probably shouldn't be too fussed with FC having chosen a 4l NA engine. However, very poor FC could be an indicator that something is wrong. I'm pretty light-footed, normal power mode drivelogic D2, 80:20 city:highway, and run stock tire pressures. Always get about 6-6.6km/l. Does that sound normal? Am hitting the same FC as my S5, though I was expecting 200cc less will mean better FC.

6-6.6 is good !!!

Re: M3 fuel consumption...

sell the car. u shud be getting about 6.7km per litre. there is definitely something wrong if u r getting 6.6.

drive M3.... talk about FC.... seriously?

TS already mentioned poor FC ( or abnormally poor FC ) could be an indicator something is wrong
with his car
Maybe he should add "Dear fellow M3 owners, I would like to find out what are your FC as bench-marking to
find out whether I am within the same range or there could be something wrong with my engine"

Re: M3 fuel consumption...

What the hell is that?!! What's next? "I dun need the bhp- How to detune a M3?"

I was told that...

this is a forum -it's in the spirit of discussion, comparing or probing that I've asked a valid concern, it's certainly not for you to censor it. if you r so free, find some other valid things to do/say.

Re: M3 fuel consumption...

FC measurement is so arbitrary....so many variables to take into consideration.

1)does the driver boot the throttle from traffic light - drag strip racer / racer boy?
2)does the driver gently depress the throttle from traffic light - pick up slower than 658cc engined subaru r2 carrying 4 sumo wrestlers?
3)is there a lot of idling time in traffic jams + waiting along the back alley / carpark to fetch the missus / mistress / gf / lionness / mutual friend etc etc to finish work?
4)is there a lot engine revs to show off the exhaust note?

5)80:20 city : highway driving.... city driving FC is generally worst off than highway driving fc because of start stop traffic.

etc etc

and the list goes on....

plus what type fuel is in the car?

the BMW 4l S65 engine has 400nm, about 40nm down from TS's 4.2l V8 Audi S5. its the torque rather than bhp that picks the car up to speed from standstill.

as light footed as you possibly can... the e9X S65 engine needs revs past 2 rpm before the car moves forward....

this is a form of compliment, TS seen as someone 'look can up' / 'aaa kee'

Re: M3 fuel consumption...

Toto, wats ur Lambo's FC?

Re: M3 fuel consumption...

Based on data i pull out of Autodata.net, FC for urban cycle:
M3: 5.6km/L
S5: 6.4km/L

I ask for oilman.... where is the best car wash in Singapore?

I need to clean my 6WB as many people touched it as the displays looks 3D....*(#_)(*# fingerprints

Re: M3 fuel consumption...

Aw damn I got found out. Was really trying to save $40 off my monthly fuel tab. I hear if you pull 2 sparkplugs you can save more. :lol2: If the lambo has 7.8km/l, I'm definitely getting that to keep my fuel costs down! I think I can breakeven on the higher price in... 25 years? :chinese:

Glad to see at least from the limited datapoints so far mine is not too far off, thanks for that. On a serious note, yes I do feel the torque is perceptibly less than the S5, do need to rev it higher for the same buttfeel acceleration from stationary. Sorry for the noob questions, this is only my first year of car ownership.

Less dirt equals less weight equals better FC...
