M3 Software Update

Re: M3 Software Update

Just did an update with Munich. Dunno what kind of upgrade it is but car really feels smoother, less jerky and does reduce the humping when one step too much on the gas off the lights. Previously really cant predict whether the car will jerk or not.

Stage 1? Sounds like a "mod." Any power gain?

Why were you asked to pay? is it because yours was from PML or PI?

Re: M3 Software Update

Yup. Mine went in for some engine issue recently and told me to give me a software update if applicable. They claimed after using my key to hook up to their system, they found there is an update for my car.

The way I see it, there is no pro-active step to recall M cars for update (surely they can if they want to) and if some wait for 25,000 km before sending in and if at that point, Munch is prepared to update, the owner would not have enjoyed the update for a long long while prior. 25000km can take people two years to clock.

Re: M3 Software Update

Do you mind sharing the engine issue? From what I understand, they are saying that so long as owner cannot feel e issue, they will not do e upgrade and in my case, I'm nt complaining any and hence this is a cost to me. Maybe I shld bring up the matter to them. Lack o consistency.

erm.. i had no issues.. i requested for software update.. it was done without charge.. i cannot understand why they would charge u since its a munich unit.

Re: M3 Software Update

I think the engine issue not the deciding factor. I understand from them that if there is a remark in their system (from checking my kejy fob) that there is a software update for my car, they will do it gratis.

Re: M3 Software Update

I heard Munich charges you for each piece of lead weight they use on your car if they do wheel balancing for you. Better BYO in case... That is on top of labour charges for inconveniencing them. Whoever is incharged should look into this or whoever implemented this policy, then he/she should be fired.

:wtf: That's ridiculous...

Re: M3 Software Update

Would actually prefer MA to update this, anyhow their stance is if you send in your M for service and the system prompts for an update/upgrade in software, it would be complimentary, otherwise its chargeable. For my case, I have requested my car to have that update and hence chargeable. This also means that the upgrade is not necessary in all M3 cars.

However, what disturbed me was there was no mention to me at that time that by upgrading the software it may lead to malfunction of some parts (conveyed to me over the phone after I upgraded). But so far all is good for me. I still dont quite get it. The software is called "new 1 stage". Misleading if the upgrade is not necessary for all. To me, seems lk a tweaked ECU map of some sort.

In any case, MA offered goodwill voucher. More clarity will be good. Cos the service guy mentioned that some guys after the update felt the car "quicker" in response.
