never brought a HDB new or resale... first property is a freehold apartment... all with my hard earn money and of course money from shylock...

but before that you consider the fact that... you can lose your job.. and therefore that monthly pay check.. so make provision and have enough cash to see you over 6, 12,24 months... what every you are comfortable with..

Once again you talk like everyone got a lot of money to start with and no need to take loan from bank even for housing....

It's good for you. Thanks.

Anyway it is not about right or wrong. If you have a chance to take an MRT ride downtown on a weekday morning at 8am and try imagining you had 2 kids aged 1 and 2 with you. And then you imagine having to do this every day. This family hope for a car, would you classify as a need or a want?

Meritocracy and the aged old saying "reaping what you sow" is deeply entrenched into me since primary school with the Singapore education system. But we do not assume every is lucky like us and have many choices in life especially when it comes to "pay now or pay later".

That's all. Thank you.

The family hope for a car is WANT
If its an important issue must travel at 8am then book a cab.
If not urgent then travel at off peak hour?

I just feel so lucky that I dun have to squeeze in that MRT at 8am every morning whilst fetching my kids to child care and then going off to work.

Whether I drive a Bimmer or not becomes unimportant.

Maybe you have something against porky88 which i may not know.

But he did mention make provision and have enough cash to see the borrower over a comfortable period.
What he means is not to stretch for something which is beyond our means.
His post is in no way pointing to anyone dun need to take loan from bank for housing or whatever

Re: MAS Imposes Financing Restrictions on Motor Vehicle Loans

in sg context... car is 95%(+- a few %) want NOT need
the public transport system can get you from any point to any point within a decent time..

... just realised... i am starting to sound like the ruling party.... shit.....

Just pardon me for asking... How much did you buy your 1st hdb and how much did you make when you sold it? How much did you pay for your condo?

Financial prudence is definitely very important and essential but I am quite sure you did not pay $400-500K for a hdb back then?

It is not about the absolute amount but I bought what I could afford within my means following faithfully my personal financial scheme. When I was a poor student in uni, I live in rented flat, recycle my clothes year after year and rode a bicycle and ate bread, ok branded bread it was Gardenia :p
I did not shortchange my self though, I was lean and fit through the hard times which I still live with some regret that I failed to maintain (the lean and fit part) :)
Anyway, I bought Jap cars in my 20s and 30s lah, not that I lived like a scrooge though some said I was somewhat one lol.

Re: MAS Imposes Financing Restrictions on Motor Vehicle Loans

Agree. The only solution is to build more infrastructure like roads and highways
and flyover. And also HDB that is underground.[/QUOTE]

Ya. Then when people ask what is your address, you say.....
Blk123, Tunnel Lane 12, B12-500.

Maybe his sedan is a Porsche Panamera ... better don't delete yet ;)
But that is beside the point, the real message porky88 and me is conveying is to spend within your means and plan for your future financial freedom.
